Youth Sports - 12U Softball, 8U Baseball, 8U Soccer

What made you get into volunteering?

Wanting to be involved in my community and get to share the joy of sports and team camaraderie with my kids.

No real fun facts, just a fun guy.

What’s been your favorite volunteer memory?

First year coaching soccer we had a young team that struggled all year and ended up winless going into the playoffs. After going behind 4-0 at halftime, us coaches told the kids to keep trying hard and stay positive, and they managed to tie the game and eventually win on penalties for the first victory of the season.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who has just started volunteering at the Park District?

First time coaching can be nerve wracking. Remember to take it one practice, one game at a time. Be fair and be present for the kids -- ultimately they just want to have fun. If you make it fun and educational / instructive for them, you both will get a lot of volunteering.
