Tuesday Night Church Identity: Worship
On Tuesday nights, our team goes to Rio de Dios to help them discover what they believe as a church. We are currently walking them through their church service layout. We've asked several questions in regards to why they do certain things during their church service, and what the importance for those things are. One Tuesday we focused more on worship. We talked about how worship is not a performance, it is a time to realign our hearts with God's. Shannon said that if someone is truly worshiping, "It doesn't matter what language it is in, it doesn't matter that you can't understand, it makes you feel the oochi goochies." To further prove this point, Hannah led the church in worship, at first singing in English and then switching to Spanish.
Love and Support
A Slice of Home
Every year we throw a super bowl party for our teachers and Wednesday night Bible study group. It's a great chance to fellowship with one another and take part in something from back home.
Teacher Retreat
We normally host a one day retreat for the North American ALCS teachers but this year we decided to extend it to two days and open it up to both English and Spanish speaking teachers. Teaching can be hard and very discouraging; so we use this retreat to help encourage, refresh, and show the teachers that we love and support them.
Empowering Others
Teaching Others
For the past year, Josh has been teaching a man named Manuel how to read. He has invited several of his youth along to help him. Manuel can now read and is learning how to write grammatically correct sentences. The youth have also stepped up in helping. This last week the youth took over in teaching Manuel. It was a blessing for Josh to sit back and watch the youth teach.
Pastor Prayer Retreat
We partnered with the Wardlows (another missionary group) to host a prayer retreat for all our pastors. This week most of people return from the coffee harvest, which means the ministry year is about to begin in the villages. We had a great time of fellowship and prayer. Pastor John from FBC Sanger taught the pastors about the importance of prayer. The pastors were challenged to pray for their marriage, church, community, region, country, and world. We believe the conference was a great start to the 2020 village ministry.
