Top Four Essential Skills for Construction Project Sites
Project Sites are complex social environments. Site policies that try and capture policies of the stakeholders in all directions including owners, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers means negotiation is present well over 50% of the day, regardless of what contracts are signed and what terms and conditions are contemplated prior to a shovel going in the ground.
This course will cover the following topics:
Productivity: Learn how to assess your site productivity. For example, how are you currently evaluating your productivity? Are you relying on subcontractors to self-evaluate? Do you evaluate what is causing impact and stacking? A good change order protocol and analysis of your site productivity will provide insight into how to solve and avoid future problems. Knowing how to evaluate productivity on-the spot or via field ratings can be critical to project success.
- Learn how to evaluate job site efficiency via field ratings and how to apply them on your site
- 7 Barriers to Construction Productivity gap (as defined by McKinsey & Company)
- Develop a plan to implement productivity improvements and how to present it to senior management

Canadian Canoe Museum begins to take shape
Construction at the Canadian Canoe Museum is well underway, moving swiftly with the current.
The museum, which houses the world's largest collection of canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft, temporarily closed its doors to the public at its current location in Peterborough, Ont. as it prepares to move to its new waterfront museum at 2077 Ashburnham Drive. The museum is expected to reopen at the new location in the summer of 2023.
In a newsletter, Carolyn Hyslop, executive director of the Canadian Canoe Museum, said she expects 2023 to be even more eventful and said by this time next year, the dream of a new museum will become a reality. The museum team recently took a tour of the new building and campus.
"Moving to our new location will begin a new chapter in our history and allow us to offer our community so much more than we can currently," said Hyslop in her letter. "New programs will allow everyone to partake in hands-on experiences and workshops, whether on the water, around the property, or inside our beautiful new building. Our Collection Centre provides a space to safely store, preserve, and maintain hundreds of canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft while allowing enhanced public access to the entire collection."
Structural steel has now been installed for the roof and outline of the new $27-million Canadian Canoe Museum being built on a five-acre site at Johnson Park along Little Lake on Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough's east end.
Designed by Lett Architects of Peterborough, the two-story 65,000-square-foot building will house all of the museum's canoe collection in an artifact conservation environment and will offer a 17,000-square-foot exhibition hall, along with an artisan studio, canoe-building studio, a library and research room, café and a lakefront terrace.
Also being built on Little Lake is a waterfront events and education centre and a canoe house with floating docks to accommodate on-water and outdoor education programming.
Architect: Lett Architects
General Contractor: Chandos Construction
Estimated Value: $27.4 million
