Lobby Display Case
Liz Merna
Liz lives happily in Hyannis with her two children and husband. After growing up on Cape Cod, she has served as a youth services librarian since 2017 first at Whelden Memorial Library and starting in 2025, at Hyannis Public Library to present. Beginning this year she is also working with Special Education children on the Barnstable Public School busses. Her macramé passion began when hosting a beginner program at Whelden. She learned how to make a simple plant hanger to teach the class and from then on she was knotted into a new love. An Etsy store and workshops around the state followed. Her dream is to spark joy in others with literary and macramé love, all "tales entwined."

Artifacts found in and around Sturgis Library will be on display in the atrium "under the whales" during the month of November. Over the past 20 years, archaeologists and metal detectorists have explored the property and the historic portion of the building to unearth evidence of the people who lived or worked on the property. Items that were discovered include coins, spoons, pottery sherds, buttons, clothing ornamentation, 17th century glass, and much more. The items are now part of our archival collections.
To learn more about the history of the building that is now Sturgis Library, check our Historic Structure Report. It is an in-depth history of the evolution of the building from 1644 to the 21st century, and includes photographs of the hidden areas of the Library that are not open to the public. The report circulates for two weeks.
