Preaching Text: Revelation 5:1-13

Conquering, Revelation style. With a book so full of powerful imagery, we may imagine military might the likes of which we haven’t seen. Christians won’t be surprised that the One who has conquered is a lamb. Not just a lamb, a lamb that has been slaughtered. We will be invited to see power in a new way through our reading. 

Lamb of God, You show us that power and blessing may differ from our expectations.  Help us to be deeply rooted in who Jesus is, not who we wish Him to be. In His name, Amen

Why does our church give money away?

• O Christ, speak in our time—to us and through us—that the Spirit’s power may move us as it did your first followers.
• Keep us true to our mission and lead us away from preoccupation with petty, superficial, and nonessential things, lest our witness lose its power.
• Place your eternal, unyielding love, O God, firmly within our hearts that it might guide our minds, our words, and our actions.
• You who have known deep suffering have the power to soothe our broken souls. Lay your hands upon those whom we lift up in prayer to you.
• Have mercy on us for the sake of all the faithful, and keep us united as one family in you.

All things exist in and through you, loving God. Therefore we entrust our prayers, our faith, and our lives to you, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

We surround with our prayers the family of long-time member Gloria Nephew who died earlier this week. Gloria recently moved to Minnesota with her son, Stan. At her request, there will be no formal service. She will be buried in her home state of Iowa at a later date.

Former GLC Vicar, Aaron Musser will be ordained on Friday, August 22 at 6PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. All are welcome to attend and celebrate with soon-to-be Pastor Aaron Musser! Please contact Michelle if you would like to car pool.

Did you attend a vacation bible camp as a kid?

Please join us between services on Sunday, August 10 in Fellowship Hall to make meals for the Lazarus House residents. We are asking for food donations for lunch and dinner. Click HERE to donate ingredients. Contact Lisa for more information.

Bible study is returning every Thursday beginning August 14 at 9:30AM in the chapel. Contact Pastor Trudy for more infomation.

The High School Youth Group is going to Sportzone in Aurora for go karting and mini golf on Saturday, August 16. Transportation and dinner will be provided. We will depart GLC at 5:15PM. Cost is $15 per person. Please RSVP to Faith by Wednesday, August 13.

If you’re looking to have yourself or your child baptized at GLC, please plan on attending a baptism information class on Sunday, August 17 immediately following the 10:30AM service. Contact Michelle to RSVP or for more information.
