Profession/Industry: City Planner for the City of Merriam
Hometown: Olathe, Kansas
Jazmin's Story: I’m a young Latina woman who grew up in a close-knit family where community and hard work were always important. As a first-generation college graduate and oldest sibling, I’ve learned to lead by example and always look for ways to create opportunities for others. My experiences inspired me to pursue a career focused on building stronger, more inclusive communities. Outside of work, I enjoy being active, exploring new places, and staying involved in things that celebrate culture and community. I’m always looking for ways to keep learning, growing, and making a positive difference.
What Drives Jazmin: I’m driven by my values of community, inclusion, and helping create opportunities for others. In my work as a city planner, I focus on guiding positive change, encouraging thoughtful growth, and helping people see the impact planning has on their community. I care about building communities that are welcoming, connected, and built for everyone.
How YLP Has Helped: Being part of YLP and on a committee for over a year has connected me with people who share my passion for community and growth. It’s helped me grow my network, build leadership skills, and find a supportive group that encourages me personally and professionally. The members are knowledgeable and welcoming, and together we’re focused on making a positive impact in our community.
