Lehigh Carbon Community College Joins Statewide Partnership to Launch Union Apprenticeship Pathways

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC), as part of the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges (PACCC), yesterday signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TradesFutures to establish a first-of-its-kind statewide apprenticeship-ready partnership. The agreement, signed on National Skilled Trades Day in Harrisburg, authorizes Pennsylvania’s 15 community colleges to implement the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3). This is a nationally recognized pre-apprenticeship program, developed by North America’s Building Trades Unions.

“This partnership represents a transformative step forward for Lehigh Carbon Community College. By integrating the MC3 curriculum into our programming, we are creating clear, accessible pathways into family-sustaining careers in the skilled trades. Together with TradesFutures and our industry partners, we are not only meeting workforce demands but also opening doors of opportunity for our students and communities statewide,” said Dr. Ann D. Bieber, President of LCCC.

Meeting the 2030 Workforce Demand

The collaboration arrives at a critical juncture for the Commonwealth’s economy. State data projects that Pennsylvania will require 300,000 skilled trade workers by 2030, particularly as 40% of the current workforce nears retirement.

LCCC is already a key player in this statewide strategy. As a member of the Technical Trades Consortium in the Expanded Northeast Region, LCCC works alongside Luzerne, Northampton, and Bucks county community colleges to provide specialized training for high-demand sectors, including the hyperscale data centers currently planned for the region.

Bridging the Gap to Careers

The MC3 curriculum is registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and focuses on removing barriers for underrepresented communities. “Our goal is to codify these partnerships among community colleges, technical high schools, and the building trades,” said Dr. Tuesday Stanley, President/CEO of the PACCC. “By doing so, we magnify the preeminent role community colleges play in delivering the skilled labor Pennsylvania needs to thrive.”

Through this MOU, LCCC students will gain access to a proven curriculum that provides a direct gateway into the building and construction trades, ensuring the Lehigh Valley remains a leader in the state’s burgeoning workforce development ecosystem.

LCCC Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with Amazon

Lehigh Carbon Community College proudly partnered with the Amazon Apprenticeship Team to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week. The dynamic on-campus event highlighted the impact of registered apprenticeships in advanced manufacturing and robotics.

The event brought together students, educators, industry professionals, and community members for an engaging day focused on workforce development and career pathways. Guests participated in campus tours showcasing LCCC’s state-of-the-art training facilities, hands-on lab demonstrations, and interactive sessions with Amazon Mechatronics and Robotics Apprentices (MRAs).

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity for attendees to hear directly from apprentices during live Q&A sessions. Apprentices shared their experiences, discussed the skills they are developing through the program, and offered insight into career opportunities in robotics and advanced manufacturing.

The event demonstrated the power of collaboration between education and industry to create meaningful workforce pathways. Through partnerships like this, LCCC and Amazon are helping students gain valuable technical skills while earning real-world experience in high-demand fields.

LCCC is grateful for its continued partnership with Amazon and for the shared commitment to building talent pipelines that meet workforce needs while creating life-changing opportunities for students.

She also revitalized the Education suite with vibrant bulletin boards and a welcoming coffee bar, bringing a dedication and "can-do" spirit that made a lasting impact in record time.

March 2026: James Leap (College Relations Office) James has been a powerhouse, tackling everything from technical website updates to high-level creative design. He consistently demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and remarkable versatility, pivoting seamlessly between technical website maintenance and creative social media storytelling in support of the Foundation. His standout poster design was even featured in the mail lobby, proving his reliability and initiative make him an invaluable asset.

April 2026: Nigel Kuzanga (Career Development) Nigel serves as a cornerstone of the department, going far beyond the scope of a typical student worker. Whether handling complex graphic design, managing event setup, or meticulously handling reconciliations, he approaches everything with a willing heart and creative mind. May 2026: Leah Betancourt (Donley Center) Since joining the team, Leah has proven to be exceptionally task-driven, dependable, and positive. Her impact spans multiple departments: she has led insightful campus tours in Allentown, assisted with Literacy Department orientations, organized the food pantry, and ensured Career Development Center events run smoothly. Also a gifted artist whose work has been featured in a children's book, she used her personal vision to create a thoughtful drawing of the Donley Center team.

The dedication and excellence displayed by these students highlight the mission of Career Development at LCCC. By providing the necessary tools and support, we continue to empower our students to start their journeys here with confidence, knowing they have the foundation to go anywhere.
