Wheels of Blessings April Newsletter

They have to carry everything they own. They walk and walk and walk. Some are new to the streets: family conflicts, divorce, medical emergencies that wipe out their resources, losing their jobs, security, and the prestige of owning something more than what they carry on their backs.

Others need the streets' wilderness, the camps hidden in groves of trees, the constant moving. Others are damaged by addiction or unmanaged mental illness. For some, the only life they know is one of receiving handouts and dependence…something those of us who are self-sufficient and self-responsible perhaps cannot understand.

These are the fellow human beings you, our Wheels of Blessings supporters, care deeply about.

This month, our special thanks to the monks of Belmont Abbey monastery, who gave a generous Easter gift to Wheels. The monks agreed to give up several meals during Lent, estimate the cost of each meal they did not eat, and donate that amount to Wheels. The amount donated told the story of a lot of meals given up!

Go Phillies!

One of our most generous contributors, and a dedicated Board member of Wheels of Blessings, recently donated a box full of brand-new Philadelphia Phillies T-shirts.

It’s always special to see the excitement these bring. For many of the people we serve, spotting the logo of a favorite team sparks instant connection, pride, and joy. In those moments, something as simple as a T-shirt becomes a reminder that we’re all part of something bigger.

That shared spirit—the sense of belonging, of being on the same team—is one of the greatest gifts we can offer as we serve our brothers and sisters.

The world of the unhoused is constantly in flux. The benefits of teams going out 3 times a month and into different areas of Gaston County help us keep up with changes, such as camps being cleared, new camps forming, and individuals "re-settling" after being moved on by police.

In addition, team members who go out on unscheduled times often meet new people and also give an extra lift to those we know. For instance, Sr. Carolyn went out with coffee and doughnuts on Easter morning and met both new and regular folks, all so grateful for an extra treat on Easter Sunday. Mary Kane, Deacon Zeke and his wife Jean Marie, Stu LaFrancis and his wife Jeanne, and others often go out, as well. Wheels of Blessings is blessed.

We are truly grateful for your unwavering support and active participation, which helps us make a significant difference each month.

Your kindness and generosity are the wheels that keep our mission rolling forward! Together, we have addressed essential needs and brightened the lives of those facing hardships in Gaston County.

Let’s continue to drive change together and spread even more joy and support in our community!
