Meet the 2026 Bald Head Association Board Nominees

We asked the candidates to tell us a little about themselves. Here are the prompts:

  • Profession and Education
  • What is your history with Bald Head Island that has brought you to ownership and now a candidate for BHA?
  • What professional skills and life experiences do you feel would be most valued as a member of the BHA Board?
  • As a BHI property owner, what aspect of the Island life is most important to you as a key to BHI’s future and, if elected, how would you help craft that future?

Responses start below and continue on the links. Additional information can be found on our website.

Christine Osborne:

My husband, Rex, and I first visited Bald Head Island in 1997 and fell in love with the island’s unique character. More>

Bob Carter:

We loved the combination of environments, the small size, the lack of crowds and the relaxed pace. More>

Dianne Mathews:

I chose BHI because it was stuck in my mind and I felt like it would be a great, safe family location because of the remoteness. More>

If you have questions you would like to ask the candidates, feel free to forward them to our executive director, Doug Jones. As a reminder, you will receive your voting instructions in the mail after the Christmas holiday, and voting will take place in January. More details will follow.

Celebrate the Season Island Style

December brings a lively mix of traditions and gatherings to Bald Head Island. Although the island enjoys a peaceful winter rhythm, the month is filled with opportunities to connect, celebrate, and welcome the season together.

Project Longevity invites residents and visitors to help create wreaths for Village offices. The month also features Howl at the Moon on December 4, a community potluck on December 8, Chapel caroling on December 17, the Christmas Eve children’s nativity and candlelight services, and the Old Baldy Art Contest on December 30. As the year comes to a close, both Clubs, Jules, and Jailhouse Provisions will host New Year’s celebrations to greet 2026.

From holiday lights to creative expression, December shines with community spirit. Full event details follow. Please note the BHA offices will be closed December 24-26.

Carrying the Light Forward

How Travis Gilbert helps guide Old Baldy into its next chapter

When Old Baldy celebrated its two hundredth anniversary in 2017, Travis Gilbert knew he couldn't miss the festivities. Travis didn’t know that the evening would mark the beginning of a long and meaningful journey with the Old Baldy Foundation. He served as Old Baldy’s Educator from 2018-2021, later joined the Board of Directors, and ultimately returned to the staff as the Director of Philanthropy in 2024. No matter the role, Travis’ mission has remained the same: defining Old Baldy’s third century. Read more>

Color Harmony: ARC Palettes and Procedures

To speed up the painting process, the ARC has created approvable color palettes for both forest and beach homes. If you choose one of these palettes, you can submit a full paint application and review turnaround is typically about two weeks. If you prefer a custom palette, please go through the paint application process on the BHA website. Custom palettes are required to be seen in ARC meetings so the review could take up to six weeks. IMPORTANT NOTE: These colors apply only to single-family homes. For multifamily neighborhoods, please refer to your secondary HOA for color options. For residents of Flora’s Bluff/Killegray Ridge, please visit FBKRHOA.com to view the pre-approved color palette.
