The health and safety of our our children is one of the most important responsibilities that our families entrust us with. This responsibility extends to the responsibility of medication administration. MSDE requires licensed child care programs, whether day care or summer, to have a Medication Administration Trained (MAT) staff member on-site from the time the program to the time the program closes at the end of the day.
MAT certification is an in-person face-to-face class taught by a licensed medical professional. The class is six hours in length In the class you learn the proper methods for measuring and administering medications, recording each dose on documentation sheets, recognizing medication side effects, and other important skills.
