Great Ways to Give Back to a Special Community

Greetings, Stony Lakers!

SLYC is already gearing up for another fantastic summer of sailing, tennis, pickleball and social events — all spearheaded by our volunteer members.

We cannot stress enough that we need member involvement as the SLYC grows and we continue to develop our programming and upgrade our facilities. This club would not exist, were it not for our volunteer Directors and Committee members.

This coming season and beyond we have a number of volunteer terms expiring and need to fill various roles both on and off the Board.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2024:

Nominating Committee — need two members now.

  • Prepares the slate of directors to be elected at our August annual general meeting
  • Consists of the Commodore (Greg Plant), Immediate Past Commodore (David Newton), one voting Director (TBD), and two members who are not Directors (TBD)

OPPORTUNITIES FOR 2025:

We have a number of Director and Subcommittee roles to be filled. If you have a particular area of interest or expertise, please email slyccommodore1@gmail.com for more information.

THE BIG PICTURE:

If you’re relatively new to SLYC, you may not know that the club is managed by a volunteer working Board of Directors consisting of 16 individuals elected annually at our August AGM.

Directors serve two-year terms, except the Commodore, which is one year. And, working with the Directors on committees and as volunteers are countless members assisting with key activities like accompanying the Race Team to regattas; organizing tennis, pickleball, and social events; processing payroll for our staff; maintaining our courts, property and buildings; putting the docks in and out; watering the planters, and on… and on.
