Children as Designers is a student exhibition by KidsFashionDesign STUDIO featuring original works created by more than 20 young designers.
The exhibition includes bags, sculptural necklaces, headbands, hats, and garments, with each work growing from the child’s own ideas rather than from a shared template. Alongside the finished pieces, visitors will also be able to see parts of the children’s creative process through sketches, design decisions, material exploration, and reflection.
Together, the works reveal more than what children made — they show how children think, choose, change, persist, and gradually develop their own design judgment.
KidsFashionDesign STUDIO is an Albany-based children’s creative fashion design and hand-sewing studio founded by fashion designer and design educator Summer Liu.
Through drawing, material exploration, hand sewing, reflection, and long-term project development, children are supported in transforming their own ideas into original wearable and textile works. Rather than following a fixed model or reproducing the teacher’s aesthetic, each child is encouraged to develop an individual visual language and growing sense of design judgment.
