7 Items from the Market You Should Be Roasting
As a transitive season between summer and winter, the fall will soon consist of earth tone-colored fallen leaves, a shorter duration of daylight, and sporadic Mississippi cold fronts. This season serves as a great time to cook and eat your fresh Mississippi Farmers Market produce in a special way to increase the temperature in the house —by roasting them!
When food is roasted, it is cooked by exposure to dry heat (as done in an oven or before an open flame).

Here are seven items you can pick up during your trip at the Market this Saturday. They are all absolutely roast-friendly (and delicious, of course!) Check them out here:

  1. Potatoes
  2. Beef
  3. Squash
  4. Peppers
  5. Onions
  6. Carrots
  7. Cherry tomatoes
What's the Difference Between Roasting & Baking?
Since roasting and baking are both dry heat cooking methods, the two are typically used interchangeably. However, according to The Kitchn , "if you’re cooking food that has a solid structure —like any type of meat or vegetables—no matter the temperature of the oven, you’ll roast it. If you’re cooking food that doesn’t already have a solid structure, but will after it’s cooked—like muffins, cake, bread, and casseroles—the proper method is baking.

Now, do you agree or disagree with this clarification? Please share your thoughts with us on social media (Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter) and tag us @MSFarmersMarket for this upcoming Monday's #MondayMarketTopics!

Fall Fun Ahead!
As you may already know, the 160th Mississippi State Fair is in town! The Ferris wheels are spinning, legs are dangling from up high in the swings, and the food is giving the Midway a delicious new scent. Grab a ticket. Ride some stuff, eat some stuff, play some games, and have a blast with your family and friends!

Don't forget to check out the Great Pumpkin Search on Saturday, October 5 at the State Fair, 8-10 a.m. right next to the Biscuit Booth. (The heaviest pumpkin wins!) Grab a complimentary, warm buttermilk biscuit, and have it filled with Blackburn maple syrup while you're at it!
