MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
This weekend, I received my Covid-19 booster vaccine – and I’m so happy to have been able to do it locally.

Boosters (at this time “third doses") are available for people who are moderately or immunocompromised, 65 years and older, and those who live/work in high-risk settings, and environments with young children (click here for information from the CDC regarding “Who is Eligible for a COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shot?”). This includes people who are going through cancer treatments, received an organ transplant, etc.

The CDC states: “Studies show that after getting vaccinated against COVID-19, protection against the virus may decrease over time and be less able to protect against the Delta variant. Although COVID-19 vaccination for adults aged 65 years and older remains effective in preventing severe disease suggest vaccination is less effective at preventing infection or milder illness with symptoms. Emerging evidence also shows that among healthcare and other frontline workers, vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 infections is decreasing over time. This lower effectiveness is likely due to the combination of decreasing protection as time passes since getting vaccinated (e.g., waning immunity) as well as the greater infectiousness of the Delta variant.”

Halloween is a few days away! Who doesn’t love Halloween? We are so fortunate that our Village has many fun family events, which we have posted here in the Mayor’s message, social media, and the Village Web Blast. This year, like always, is filled with the magic of dressing up as your favorite character, walking around the community with friends and family, and taking part in trick or treating festivities. What's there not to love?

The National Safety Council has put together “Simple Steps for an Extra Safe Halloween”: Here's a scary statistic: Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Lack of visibility because of low lighting at night also plays a factor in these incidents. Please take extra care as you are driving around our neighborhoods.
Please take note that there is road work occurring in the Village at this time as follows:

PAVING
  • Lincoln Place: All curb, milling, and paving work on Lincoln Place is complete.
  • Sherwood Avenue: All curb, milling, and paving work on this portion of Sherwood Avenue is complete.
  • Justamere Drive: The sub-surface drainage improvements, milling, curb, and paving work is complete.
  • North Malcolm Street: All ADA improvements, milling, and paving work is complete.
  • Marble Place & Americo Circle: Final restoration of this area will commence once Con Edison is complete with their underground gas line work; their work is expected to be completed in October.

CON EDISON WORK
Please note Con Edison has the following active permits with the Village of Ossining:
  • Marble Place & Americo Circle (gas main installation)

  • Croton Ave & Watson Ave (trench and install conduit)
