Only Just Begun

"Long after the flowers have wilted and our Easter best has been hung back up, long after all the eggs have been found and the skydiving bunnies have been mercifully grounded, long after the disciples have gone home to get a grip on things, when all seems confusing and unstable and the ground is far from firm under your feet, there may you encounter the risen Christ. And far from finding closure or fireworks, may you be unsettled a bit, knocked for a loop, and may you find that the life he is calling forth from you has only just begun."

-Chris Currie

New! HIDDEN VOICES: THE LESSER KNOWN WOMEN OF THE BIBLE

April 12-26 | Second floor conference room | Led by Ashley Brown

Many of the women in scripture appear only for a moment, sometimes unnamed, sometimes easily overlooked, yet their stories hold profound wisdom about courage, suffering, faith, and God’s surprising work in the world. In this class we slow down and listen carefully to these hidden voices. Through study and discussion, we explore how these women shaped the biblical story and what their experiences reveal about the lives of all people who seek to follow God faithfully today.

THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

February 22-May 17 | Phifer Library

Topic for April 12: "The Good Samaritan: A Way of Life" led by Richard Ashmore

Good Friday Walking Pilgrimage

Last week, Miriam Hollar led a Good Friday Walking Pilgrimage to visit nine churches from the Lower Garden District to Audubon Park. While there, the group walked the Audubon Park Labyrinth together. In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, this labyrinth was laid as a meditative journey meant to symbolize and facilitate healing for the people of New Orleans. The pilgrimage culminated in the columbarium at SCAPC, leading into the Good Friday worship service. Pictured below from left are Caitlin Wallace-Rowland, Keith Brown, Ashley Brown, John Koch, Cary Phelps, Chris Currie, Michele Murphy, John and Patti Dunlap, Miriam Hollar, and Thomas Schulingkamp.

Easter Cross

The Easter cross at the front of the Sanctuary on Sunday was beautifully decorated by Elizabeth Favret, Michele Murphy, and Saskia Ozols.

Bloomfield Flower Memorial

The elegant flowers in the Sanctuary urns on Easter Sunday are donated every year from the estate of Mr. and Mrs. William Bloomfield. In 1930, Mrs. Bloomfield, with a single gift, fully funded the construction of our sanctuary. Members of the Flower Ministry Committee distributed some blossoms to friends in the congregation needing a special lift, and Mayson Buffington, chair of the Worship and Music Committee, adorned the Bloomfield tomb with the remaining flowers.

The Latest at Aden

Last week, members of the SCAPC Nursery School visited the Aden Program for Elder Care and enjoyed some Easter craft projects together!

YAF in Crescent City Classic

Cal and Theo Carlisle along with Laurel, Lilla, and Caitlin Wallace-Rowland cheered on the SCAPC YAF Crescent City Classic runners on Saturday, including Christina, Matthew, Liam, and Adele Carlisle, Will Tietje, Bria and Ethan Rault, Matt McCann, Stafford Primeaux, Catherine Rigby, and Grace Fleshman!
