Food is Love, Not Trash

So many resources are poured into creating the very food we eat. It only makes sense to give our uneaten food another chance at giving back, which is what recycling our food scraps does. Food in the trash is destined for the landfill, but recycling our uneaten food gets returned into nutrient-rich compost. Avoid food waste as much as possible, and whatever is left can be turned into compost!

Confused About Recycling Plastics?

Recycling is constantly changing, so we know it can be confusing. The thing is, recycling is based on economics. If it is economically viable to recycle a certain type of plastic, then YES it can go into your blue cart to eventually become a new product! If not, than that means there is no market for that item, and it is no longer accepted. Check out our latest Facebook post that dives deeper into which types of plastic are accepted in our service area and how to tell the difference. Thank you for staying informed and for doing your part!

Don't Sleep on Illegal Dumping

Mattresses are one of the most common items that are dumped illegally along roadways and open spaces. Over 50,000 are discarded in the U.S. EVERY DAY! But did you know that more than 75% of a mattress can be recycled into other products? Did you also know that you can dispose of up to FIVE mattresses for FREE at Salinas Valley Recycles or ReGen Monterey? What’s more, all retailers that deliver a new mattress to a consumer must offer to pick up your used one for FREE. There is simply no excuse to illegally dump a mattress. Find your nearest option for free (& legal) disposal using the What Goes Where app.
