21 Guns Surrendered!
At the June 9 safe-surrender event sponsored by Guns to Gardens Louisville, 14 people brought 21 guns to be chopped up and turned into garden tools, art, and jewelry. Thanks be to God that these weapons can no longer be used for harm but will be transformed into instruments of peace and healing.
Several TV stations covered the event. Volunteers included 7 from Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church. Pastor Tami was one of the “accompaniers,” offering a listening ear and prayer if needed by those bringing weapons to surrender. Church of the Promise, in the Portland neighborhood, hosted the event and supplied one of the chop saws.
“This is a great thing to do,” commented a man who brought in three pistols that had belonged to his father. He and his wife were delighted to find a way to get rid of the guns and to “feel that we’re doing something positive” by having them turned into gardening tools.
