Dear Residents,

Unfortunately, as of Wednesday, the federal government was partially shutdown when Congress failed to reach a deal on a funding package. While certain essential services remain open, such as the US Postal Service, air travel, and Medicare & Medicaid health care programs, there will likely be delays due to staffing shortages. For a summary of what is and is not open, click HERE.

It is going to be another beautiful fall weekend with plenty of things to do in and around Orangetown—from taking a tour of Historic Homes & Landmarks in Tappan to viewing 10 short films from 7 countries in Palisades. Please scroll below for details on these events and others.

For those of you who follow local social media, I am happy to report that Rocco (the dog), is home safe and sound! Rocco became frightened by fireworks and ran off a week ago. Fortunately, he was found, scared and hungry, but otherwise okay. Thanks to all who helped get the word out.

I hope you have a chance to enjoy some of the activities this weekend, but whatever you choose to do, have a good one.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Recognized by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence since 1981

This October, we stand with survivors and reaffirm our commitment to ending domestic violence in our community. Domestic violence impacts individuals and families of all ages, backgrounds, and neighborhoods. It’s not just punches and black eyes -- it’s yelling, humiliation, stalking, manipulation, coercion, threats and isolation. It’s stealing a paycheck, keeping tabs online, non-stop texting, constant use the silent treatment, or calling someone stupid so often they believe it.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, please know that help is available.

Local Resources:

  • Center for Safety & Change (24/7 Hotline): (845) 634-3344
  • National Domestic Violence Hotline (24/7): 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text “START” to 88788
  • You are not alone. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. Together, we can raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward a safer community. 💜
