Newsletter Mid October 2024

Dear Travel Colleagues,

Christmas markets and winter fun are on the radar already. Getting ready for the winter season in the Black Forest is almost just as much fun as summer. In fact, winter and the Black Forest are a perfect match! More than 100 peaks rise between 3,300 and almost 5,000 feet high in Germany's highest low mountain range. In winter, the southwest of Germany between the Swiss border and Karlsruhe in the north offers the best conditions for all kinds of winter fun. However, if you don't want to spend the Black Forest winter outdoors the entire time, you'll find countless large and small museums. In Karlsruhe on the northern edge of the holiday region, baroque castles meet media art, Baden lifestyle meets multiculturalism, modern buildings meet lots of urban greenery. Of course, at this time of year, the greenery is fir trees, or Tannenbaeume!

Happy Planning and Traveling,

Christmas Markets Abound in the Black Forest

Around 200 Advent and Christmas markets ensure the perfect winter mood in the border triangle between Switzerland, France and Germany. There are particularly beautiful Christmas markets on Germany's largest market square in Freudenstadt, under the Höllentalbahn viaduct in the Ravenna Gorge, and in the old town streets of Freiburg from November 21 to December 23. The Freiburg Christmas market is particularly well-known for its wide range of handicrafts. Of course a visit is not complete without trying a legendary "Lange Rote" market sausage. The younger guests can even lend a hand - baking cookies in the bakery. On December 6, Santa Claus stops by, tells Christmas stories and hands out small gifts. Another attraction is the impressive nativity scene with wooden figures.

Winter Fun on the Black Forest Slopes

The winter sports on offer are as diverse as the holiday region itself: 155 miles of downhill slopes and up to 1,240 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails ensure hours of sport in snow-covered nature. Ambitious downhill skiers, deep snow skiers and snowboarders will find their paradise not only on the Feldberg, but also in the many other ski areas between Todtmoos in the south, around Schonach and Schönwald in the east, and on the Black Forest High Road in the north. The largest connected ski area in the German low mountain ranges is guaranteed snow around Feldberg and Todtnauberg. From the easy family slope to the challenging FIS World Cup course, winter sports enthusiasts can experience the ultimate skiing fun.

Lots of glass, unusual materials, the integration of the landscape and fascinating insights and views into the various production areas in the wine cellar: Numerous winemakers on the Baden Wine Route invest in their business and present themselves in bold, modern and eye-catching ways. Sometimes the entire business is renovated, sometimes it is small elements that create the combination of old and new in existing structures.
