As we look back on this year, it's impossible to ignore the transformative influence of the Colour of the Year: Purple. From the delicate blossoms of lilacs to the resilience of coneflowers, Purple has left its mark from coast to coast, encouraging us to embrace its soothing and inspiring essence. As we navigate the remainder of 2023, let the echoes of Purple linger, reminding us of the profound impact colours can have on our well-being and the beauty that arises when we embrace them fully.

In 2024, get ready to dive into a sea of orange as we embark on a new vibrant journey! Thank you for making 2023 a year filled with purple wonders, and here's to an even more colourful and inspiring 2024!

Below are some ways CiB embraced the colour purple throughout the year!

NUTRIENTS FOR LIFE CANADA

SCHOOL GARDEN AWARD

CiB Ontario Provincial Liaison, Martin Quinn accepting alongside CiB Board Member Colleen Stockford, the CiB – NFL School Garden award on behalf of Norman G Powers Public School

Congratulations to the Norman G. Powers Public School on winning the Communities in Bloom – Nutrients for Life Canada School Garden Award. The K-8 school is located in Oshawa, Ontario. Their flower and vegetable gardens are a school-wide initiative involving the entire 670 student population. They would like to use the award funds for soil and seeds.  Students from across the grades will be involved in the planning, making, planting, and caring of their school gardens. They will also harvest their produce and utilize it to cook and bake nutritious foods to share with their school community. Their Eco-Club and Kindies will play key roles in the garden maintenance and the school Cooking Club will assist in making full circle connections to the land (garden to table).

This is the seventh year Nutrients for Life has partnered with Communities in Bloom to make this award available to deserving school gardens.  School Gardens are an engaging way to cultivate an interest in soil science, soil nutrients and plant growth as well as food production and food security.

Do you have a great volunteer you'd like us to celebrate?
Send the information to bloom@cib-cef.com and we'll feature them in an upcoming e-News, or on Social Media!
