In 2019, 1.7 million consumers filed fraud reports and 650,572 filed identity theft reports, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book. This amounted to $1.9 billion in total fraud losses, an increase of more than $293 million from the previous year.
