As the summer season wanes and sun-drenched skin begins to welcome cooler autumn breezes, often we are visited by a feeling of nostalgia for those sticky, melty summer nights as a child, when our “life’s purpose” was to win the game of flashlight-tag, find the best blades of grass for whistling, or see who could eat the most ice cream (before dinner, sorry Mom and Dad). Often children might be asked what they want to be when they grow up, and the dream nets of babes are cast far and wide. Do you remember what you wanted to be? Did it involve a certain career, or type of lifestyle, or how you wanted to show up in the world? How you wanted to be perceived, and how you wanted to be loved? How you wanted to show your love and purpose in the service of others?
Over the years, our purpose in life can change as swiftly and noticeably as the colors of leaves during the transition to cooler months. Sometimes even, those leaves fall, and the trees are bare, and we realize we’ve lost sight of who we truly are. Our purpose becomes a muddy puddle – the kind we would have loved to be splashing in and dirtying up our knees after rainfall during those playful summer days.
First, please forgive yourself if not all your dreams have persisted, and now feel far in the rear-view. Life can be chaotic, providing twists and turns and roadblocks to the you-you-had-hoped-to-be. You’ve learned so much along the way, though. Even if you’ve forgotten your true life’s purpose, or had trouble finding it in the first place, we’re here to remind you that deep down you know who exactly you are; beautiful, messy, mistakes and all, and most of all, HUMAN. You are dynamic, you shift, just as the ground underneath us does. If you need some help quieting the hectic chatter in your mind and re-prioritizing your life’s purpose, please find some time to listen to one of Laura King’s newest self-hypnosis sessions, “Figuring out Meaning and Life Purpose”. We have added it to this email, a gift from us to you, because we want YOU to be the most authentic you can be, as you traverse the ever-unfolding story of your life. (And please, go ahead and find that last, bright green summer blade of grass to whistle into, and say “I love you, thank you” to your inner child, who helps keep your sense of dream and wonder alive.)
