APRIL 2024 Newsletter

April 16, 2024 is EQUAL PAY DAY in Canada.

Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the next year the average woman must work in order to have earned what the average man had earned in the previous year.

This gap is even wider for racialized women.

There is nothing fair or equal about this.

IT WILL TAKE

169 YEARS TO CLOSE THE ECONOMIC GENDER GAP WORLDWIDE.

With #EqualPayDay2024 happening in Ontario tomorrow, you might hear 'the pay gap doesn't even exist' a lot this week. Check out how to combat some of the myths around the pay gap from the Equal Pay Coalition.

GECO presented in New York, NYC at the United Nations, CSW68 on March 20, 2024.

We talked specifically about the 5th Wave of Feminism. We argued that the previous waves of feminism have been exclusionary. To move forward, we need a version of feminism that is intentionally intersectional and inclusive of all genders, sexes, and sexualities.

Activism - Queer Momentum

This month, and every month, GECO will continue to fight transphobia and hate by taking part in local activism and counter protests related to trans hate. This is an important part of our work. GECO advocates for equality for all genders. Too often, trans and queer folks and communities feel left out of gender and feminist movements because of a history of exclusion. We are fighting for the fifth wave of feminism, one that is intentionally inclusive of all genders, sexes, and sexualities.
