July in Holden Village

Snapshots of Village Life

This season we celebrate little moments of life and joy in the Valley. Flowers bloom, fawns stroll through the grass, and nature trails invite us to experience the beauty of creation.

Work and play continue in the Village. Staff process wood for the winter and use sprinklers to keep the lawn green and fresh. They also pause to celebrate Holden traditions like Rhubarb fest and a June Pride parade.

Thank you for supporting Holden Village during its closure. You make these little moments possible.

With love from the in-Village team.

This Month in Village Life

Pipe Repair

Last month, the Holden operations successfully replaced the intake pipe at the diversion dam which was damaged in December’s windstorms.

On June 25, in coordination with North Wind Aviation, a ten-foot section of corrugated plastic pipe was flown into the valley and deposited near the dam. After hauling up additional tools and lumber, a three-person build-team constructed a new wooden framework, install the replacement pipe, and get the water flowing into the penstock once again.

Anniversary Dinner

The Village gathers around the table for a 54th Anniversary dinner for Nick and Val Cannard!

Val and Nick have been a longstanding presence in Holden Village. During this stay in the Village, Nick volunteered with Operations while Val worked with the Business team managing Holden Store inventory and registration software.

Happy 54th anniversary Nick and Val!

Wood Processing

Wood processing never stops! The in-Village team is working hard to make sure the community can stay warm once the weather gets cold.

According to Operations Manager Steve Johnson, Holden Village only used two cords of firewood last winter. Normally, it uses 100! The team is using this time to fill wood cribs throughout the Village so they can be set for the next TWO winters or more!

Anti-Talent Show

What's something you're good at? What's something you're bad at? What's something you're still working on? The Holden in-Village takes a pause from work to celebrate all these things during an "Anti-Talent" show in the Fireside room.

First Aid Training

With no road access, a limited staff, and wildfire a constant possibility, safety remains Holden's topmost priority. The crew meets weekly to discuss emergency scenarios, run drills, and revise emergency plans to keep the crew safe and make the Village as defensible as possible.

This week, the team practiced making splints.
