The Crossing's

2025-2026 Season:

Of being numerous

Obsessed, bewildered

By the shipwreck

Of the singular

We have chosen the meaning

Of being numerous.

— George Oppen (sung in our November concert, “Self-Evident”)

Today, we launch our 2025-2026 Season: Of being numerous.

Join us at our website to find out what we'll be up to, as we celebrate our numerousness, our differences, our commonalities, and the 250th anniversary of our country. We've titled our concerts with words from our Declaration of Independence, as we ask what those words mean, today, when the very reason for that independence seems threatened.

Dire?

No.

We have as much energy for singing, music making, commissioning, premiering, recording, and art than ever. Maybe more. (Resilience does that!)

"Portrait in Transit 3" by Caroline Bergstrøm Scheibel.

We're looking forward to visiting Carnegie Hall, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and to making our debut at Stanford University, Milwaukee's Present Music, The Peace Center in Greenville, SC, and the Mann Center in Philadelphia. Of course, we'll be in Philly a lot: at our home, The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, and at St. Mark's Church, St. Luke and the Epiphany, and First Presbyterian Church of Germantown - the latter two in our first collaborations with Artcinia.

Finally, for The Month of Moderns 2026, we are partnering with ArtPhilly for its What Now 2026 Festival – a brilliant opportunity to premiere new works and reprise commissions that we love from the canon of American choral music we've created.

Singing is the opposite of reticence. It's saying something in a manner that can't be ignored. We're looking forward to doing that a lot as we explore what "Of being numerous" means.

Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought
