Greetings!
With three weeks left in our fiscal year, I am asking for your support. Our community has been very generous in responding to our Annual Appeal, though there are some challenges that have impacted our expected revenues. Fines and fees were suspended for 11 months this fiscal year. Additionally, Friends of Patten Free Library normally raise funds from the Heritage Days Book Sale, which has been cancelled for the second year in a row.
As we emerge from the pandemic, we anticipate a stronger need for library services than at any time in recent memory. For job seekers, students looking to bridge gaps in learning, and all those craving companionship after 15 months of social distancing, Patten Free Library will be an important resource for the remainder of 2021 and 2022.
Your support helps us connect and serve the communities of Arrowsic, Bath, Georgetown, West Bath, and Woolwich. Any gift made before June 30 helps us finish this year strong and helps us support the anticipated needs on the horizon. Click the "Donate Now" button below to make your gift.
Thank you!
Lesley Dolinger

Remembering Emma Eames
Our famous opera star Emma Eames passed away on June 13, 1952 in New York City, after an accomplished life in New York, Paris, Italy, and Bath. Her friend Matilda Frelinghuysen designed Emma's tombstone in Oak Grove Cemetery.
In a June 23, 1953 article from the Bath Independent, Matilda explained that the image of the tree was "taken from the design of Madame Eames Ex Libris book plate, which she considered symbolic of her life:
"Beaten by wind and storm,
but neither bends nor breaks
as it clings to the rock."
We have tried to find the source of the lines quoted by Miss Frelinghuysen, without any luck. Do they sound familiar to you? Clues welcome!
