Boston Brothers Foundation 75 Unveils Boston Brothers Way

On Sunday, September 20, the corner of Warren Avenue and Tribou Street was renamed Boston Brothers Way after the brothers Makhi Terry-Darrah Boston and Terry Lee Boston Jr., who lost their lives in a 2023 car accident in Randolph. Phil Griffin, Brockton Ward 3 City Councilor and Chairman of the Public Safety Committee had this to say:

"The strength and courage that Zakia and Terry Boston showed after the loss of their children is phenomenal. Faced with over whelming grieve [sic] they choose to move in a positive direction and start the Boston Brothers Foundation. Their foundation has already helped many young people in our community. Their goal is to build a sports complex in our city to honor their sons memory."

To help support this goal, email BostonBrothersFoundation75@gmail.com.

Historical Tidbit: 38 Park Street

69aa3977-00c0-4404-9e4a-5246bbdfb4f9 image

The land that is 38 Park Street was bought by the city on June 3, 1874. The building was built as the Park Street School. In 1938, a city directory listed the Principal as Grace Inman, the teacher was Madelyn Brady and William Farwell was the custodian.

On February 5, 1945, the property was sold to Robert Golka whose father eventually operated a craft business around the corner on Warren Ave. Golka made this building his home until he died.

I had interaction with Golka through my job, he was considered a bit of a mad scientist, always experimenting with batteries and would talk way over my head about re-creating lightning. As it turns out he was famous for his work in this field of stored energy and studying high-voltage discharge and ball lightning. He was right up there with Nicholas Tesla. When I first met Golka, Tesla was not a household word as it is today. He also investigated UFO's in relation to his lighting studies.

Wikipedia reports that "In 1970 Robert K. Golka built a replica of Tesla's huge Colorado Springs magnifying transmitter in a shed at Wendover Air Force Base, Utah, using data he found in Tesla's lab notes archived at the Nikola Tesla Museum in Beograd, Serbia. This was one of the first experiments with the magnifier circuit since Tesla's time. The coil generated 12 million volts. Golka used it to try to duplicate Tesla's reported synthesis of ball lightning." Golka once said that Tesla had the concept but his numbers were all wrong.

Golka quietly passed away in 2018 at the age of 80.

Brockton Firefighter Honored As Fire & Life Safety Educator Of The Year

On Thursday, September 17, Massachusetts' Department of Fire Services named Brockton Fire Department's Peter Reardon as the 2026 Fire & Life Safety Educator of the Year. "Firefighter Pete," as he's known to residents, has made efforts to educate everyone in the City of Champions, regardless of how old they are or what language they speak. Since he became the Public Education Officer of Brockton's Bravest, fire safety test scores have doubled. We at BuzzAround thank Pete for his contributions in making fires in the Bay State fall to a 25-year low last year. With the Healey-Driscoll Administration making nearly $2 million in funding available for the annual Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) and Senior SAFE grant programs, we look forward to his continued impact in the community in the future!

Climate Can Do - Pack a Sustainable Lunch!

Looking for an easy way to make your lunch a little more sustainable? You may already have everything you need! Take a look in your refrigerator, freezer, or pantry.

Last night's leftovers can become today's lunch and a reusable container or water bottle can replace a disposable one. Get creative and give yesterday's dinner a lunchtime makeover by adding leftover vegetables to today's wrap or salad, or combining leftover chicken, rice, and vegetables to create a filling bowl. Using what you already have can help reduce food waste, save money, and make lunch a little more fun. For more ideas on preventing food waste at home, visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

MA INFORMATION FOR VOTERS

2026 Ballot Questions

Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Dear Voter:

On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, you will have the opportunity to make your voice heard. If you prefer to vote sooner, you can vote early or by mail. Early voting will be held October 17-30. On Election Day, all polling places will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

If you are not registered to vote, or you have moved since the last election, visit www.VoteInMA.com to register, check your registration information, and update your address. You must be registered to vote by Saturday, October 24, in order to participate in this election.

This year, there will be nine binding statewide ballot questions, the most that Massachusetts voters have ever been asked to consider. This official 2026 Information for Voters book contains information on all nine questions, including a summary of each proposal, the full text of the proposed/existing law, statements describing the effect of a yes or no vote, and brief arguments for and against each question.

The information in this book will assist you in making a thoughtful decision before you vote. With a longer ballot than usual, you may want to take notes and bring this book with you when you go to the polls.

The choices you make in this election will shape the course of government for our state, as well as local communities. I urge you to participate in this process, because your vote matters.

Very truly yours,

William Francis Galvin

Secretary of the Commonwealth

Sharing in a post, Signature Healthcare stated: "The Dunkin’ coffee and donuts provided some much-appreciated fuel during a busy day in the ED. We’re grateful for community partners like Cadete Enterprises who continue to support and recognize our incredible healthcare team."

Cadete Enterprises first began when John Cadete purchased a Dunkin location in 1977. Nearly half a century later, they haven't given up their mission of fostering community connections.

Peace.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

~ Martin Luther King Jr.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”

~ Jimi Hendrix

“When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.” ~ Fred Rogers

“Peace is more than the absence of war. Peace is accord. Harmony.” ~ Laini Taylor

Peace, dear friends, is a worthy thing to work for. It is not lack of conflict, it is engaging in inner and outer work that will build bridges between our differences.

Join me, and work for peace. ~ Jacquie
