WHAT'S NEW ON THE COMMBLOG

Letting Go, Without Letting It Fall Apart

by Ashley Graham-Wilcox

I'll just come right out with it: I am terrible at delegating.

Maybe I once had potential for it, but after so many years of working in small non-profits where there just aren't people to hand things off to and "other duties as assigned" is a way of life, I got very good at just doing the thing myself (Usually well, if often at the last possible minute.).

It's not that I want or need to maintain control of everything. For me, it's more that I rarely have the time or space to slow down long enough to explain something before I've already gone ahead and done it...So, whether it's a new volunteer or a new team member, learn with me how to more effectively delegate.

The Never-Ending Inbox

Thursday, August 20
| 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Between clergy requests, volunteer questions, and the fifteen things marked "urgent" before 9:00 am, your inbox can start to feel like a second job. How do you decide what gets answered right away and what can wait? Do you use folders, flags, or just a prayer and a scroll? Let's swap the systems, shortcuts, and boundaries that actually help — and commiserate about the ones that don't.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOP

Technology Isn't Your Ministry. But It Still Matters.

Wednesday, August 26
| 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Most church leaders didn't enter ministry to think about passwords, phishing emails, or software vendors. Yet technology quietly supports nearly every part of ministry.

This session approaches technology as an act of organizational stewardship. We'll cut through the jargon, identify common challenges, and explore practical ways to reduce risk without becoming IT experts.

You'll leave with simple frameworks, practical worksheets, and greater confidence in your church's technology. No technical background required.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOP

Backstage, Not Frontstage: A Practical Framework for AI in Congregational Life

Thursday, September 3
| 11:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM MT / 1:00 PM CT / 2:00 PM ET

Most church leaders have already used AI, and many feel uneasy about it. This workshop offers a framework for deciding where these tools belong in ministry and where they don't, addressing the environmental and ethical questions honestly along the way. We'll work through real congregational scenarios and leave with concrete next steps. This expert-led workshop is led by the Rev. Peter Levenstrong, an Episcopal priest, a writer, and a stubborn believer that things get better when more people help make them. He serves as Associate Rector at St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco.

Bonus Special Series!

AI for Churches: A 3-Part Series

Tuesdays, September 8, 15 & 22 | 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Many churches fall into the habit of promoting every event equally and wondering why people stop paying attention. How do we move from simply announcing things to communicating with greater intention and clarity? We’ll discuss audience fatigue, prioritization, messaging strategy, and how churches can better align their communications with mission rather than just maintaining a crowded calendar.

AI is everywhere right now, and most of us are somewhere between curious and overwhelmed. This three-week cohort is for churches who want to move past the hype (and the dread) and figure out what AI actually looks like in day-to-day ministry.

We'll start with the fundamentals: what AI is, what it isn't, and why it's worth your attention even if you're skeptical. From there, we'll get practical — how to actually talk to these tools so what comes back is useful instead of generic. We'll close with workflows: real systems you can put in place the week after the series ends, not just ideas to file away.

  • Week 1: AI 101 — What it is, what it isn't, and why it matters for ministry
  • Week 2: Prompting — How to actually talk to AI tools and get useful results
  • Week 3: Workflows — Practical systems churches can implement right away

This series will be led by Katie Allred, an AI and community strategist who built and led online communities of 500,000+ members at companies like Meta and Adobe, and now helps churches and organizations put AI to practical use.

CHURCH COLLABORATION MEETING

The Church Calendar is Not a Strategy

Wednesday, September 9
| 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Many churches fall into the habit of promoting every event equally and wondering why people stop paying attention. How do we move from simply announcing things to communicating with greater intention and clarity? We’ll discuss audience fatigue, prioritization, messaging strategy, and how churches can better align their communications with mission rather than just maintaining a crowded calendar.

This Week's Creative Prompt:

People connect with people, not just programs. Look at your recent content and find one opportunity to pull back the curtain — share a face, a moment, a story, or a glimpse of the work in progress.

This Week's Refill & Rest:

What activity makes you lose track of time in the best way?

How can you find time in your schedule to work that activity in?

Whether it's a pickup soccer game, reading a book, or building LEGOs, what puts you in that "flow state"?
