"Often Misconceptions & Misunderstandings by Parents / Viewers"

There’s an expression.
“Perception is reality.”

Unfortunately, perception can be very misleading and result in a lot of misunderstanding.

Misunderstanding is sometimes the case when parents view a skills development on ice session from the arena stands. They do not really understand from their vantage point and hockey knowledge base what is truly going on with development.

What the on-ice instructors are doing, the purpose behind our coaching methodologies, program curriculum details, practice plan setup / reasoning, specific skill development drills and many key teaching points conveyed on the ice.
Here are a few pointers and some questions to help educate parents and help them better understand the development process:

  • With “individual skill development” it’s always the player & the drill. They are not competing against other players in the group.

  • Players do not master a skill in 5 – 10 minutes of practice.

  • If players can master the fundamentals – it looks easy & effortless. This is the key to mastery.

  • Pushing the players to go fast doesn’t mean good development. Often we need to slow things down for a player to acquire good shooting mechanics / technique.
“There is no glory in practice, but WITHOUT PRACTICE there is no glory” – Unknown

We encourage parents / viewers to read more on this topic!

Award Recipient

Bruce Hanchar
Bruce started on his hockey journey about 9 years ago! He comments that he was "Bambi on ice" and without Rex and his great group Bruce doesn't believe he would be enjoying the game at his current level.

It has been a pleasure having Bruce participate in our Tucker Hockey programs for nearly a decade!
Post Game Time Nutrition for
Hockey Players
Do you know why proper nutrition is important for a hockey player?

Tucker Hockey is doing a three-part series that will focus on pre-game, game time, and post-game nutrition. What that looks like and why it is important for a hockey player.
Danny Cammack Memorial Minor
Award Recipient

Abbey Meheriuk
Abbey is currently playing U18 Inferno Girls Hockey and has been playing hockey since she was 6 years old.

She loves the competitive nature of hockey, and being able to play both forward and defence. Abbey likes the fact that it is a team sport and you both win and lose as a team.

The most enjoyable part of the Tucker Hockey experience for Abbey was meeting new people and getting to play with her brothers. Also, she was able to demonstrate a few drills which was a very cool opportunity for Abbey.

We are trilled to have Abbey and her brothers as part of the Tucker Hockey family and look forward to seeing them back on the ice soon!
