Guilford County Schools is implementing a new student ID card called the GCS OneCard. Our students will be receiving the OneCard on March 4, 2019.
Students will display the card on a lanyard provided by the district. These lanyards are break away lanyards so they are safe for students to wear throughout the school day.
Based on the GCS policy for One Card, students will be required to wear the ID card at all times while they are at school. This is an important safety measure that will help us know who is in our building. The card also makes it more convenient for students to check out library books and to purchase meals from our cafeteria. In the future, it will be used to enter and exit busses and check out library books from the local public libraries.
Again, based on the GCS policy, wearing the card is mandatory for all students. For the remainder of this year, our elementary students will pick up and put on their One Card when they enter the classroom each morning and the teacher will collect the card prior to the dismissal bell. We will be teaching our students the remainder of this year how to properly wear the card so that it is always visible. We appreciate your support as we take this important safety measure.
We want to thank all our families for the love shared with us this past week on Valentine’s Day. We also want to thank all our students for the kindness shared with our bus drivers during Love the Bus week.
We want to remind parents that have children that need to be walked in during the arrival process that parents must park their cars in a parking spot off of Caison Drive and walk their children all the way into the building. The Caison Drive area is not a routine drop off area.
For routine car rider drop off, we ask all parents to please use our Car Rider Line as it is staffed to ensure that car riders enter the building safely. The Caison Drive area is for parents who need to park and walk their children into the building. If you need assistance finding the correct entrance area for the car rider line at the entrance to the Twelve Oaks neighborhood, please stop in the front office and we will assist you. If you are parking along Caison Drive to walk your child into the school building please use extreme caution in this area.
We have state laws that prohibit cars from being in the bus lane during the unloading process so please make sure you follow all staff members directions who are out on duty in the bus area each day. This job is often completed in very cold temperatures and rain and we greatly appreciate the staff who are out there each day making sure that students are safe. Please slow down along the Caison Drive area and be extremely careful of students crossing in the parking lot during the arrival process.
As always, we encourage all families to use our two routine avenues for morning arrival which are our buses and the car rider line, except, of course, when there are emergency or different situations that require a student to be walked into the building. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us maintain a safe school environment each morning and afternoon.
