Leadership Team Updates

Dear St. Alphonsus Families,

Thank you for such a great turnout at Trunk or Treat last Friday! What a fun event--we so enjoyed seeing all the kids and parents in costumes. We are happy to announce that Miss Monika, our early childhood teachers' aide, won the staff pumpkin carving contest with this beautiful pumpkin! You can see more Trunk or Treat photos below and we will also be sharing even more on our social media channels tomorrow for Halloween!

We also wanted to take a moment to let our new math teacher, Ms. Julie Morrison, introduce herself to you! She writes, "I have over 20 years of experience teaching math and coaching sports. I have a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Indiana University. I love math because it's a universal language and is a way of problem solving. I enjoy spending time with my family, being active outdoors, and reading. I'm excited to be here and grateful for everyone being so welcoming!"

Ms. Morrison has spent the last week getting to know students & evaluating where they are in the math program. She can always be reached with questions and concerns at jmorrison@st-alphonsus.org.

Our School Advisory Commission and the Leadership Team would also like to invite you to the next School Advisory Commission Meeting on Tuesday, November 14 at 5:00pm in the Community Room. This is an open session, which means you can submit questions for the group to answer, come learn about the role of SAC and how they assist & support School Leadership, and talk with our school leaders! Questions can be submitted via email to our School Advisory Commission Chair Dawn Eisold. Please submit your questions by November 7. We hope to see you there so we can thank you in person for your support of our team and our school!

Lastly, a reminder that tomorrow is our Halloween Out of Uniform Day. More details below!

Have a great week!

Special Out-Of-Uniform Day for Halloween!

On October 31, students are invited to wear black & orange or Halloween-themed clothes for Halloween.  Only students in grades 3K- Kindergarten are eligible to be in costumes.

This is not a normal Out-Of-Uniform Day; students out-of-uniform need to be dressing to the spirit day OR they should be wearing their regular uniform.

November & December Lunch Menus

Ala Carte Lunch Options Return!

It is with great excitement that the Cougar Café announces the return of a la carte during the lunch period! Beginning Wednesday, November 1st, we will be offering an array of healthy snacks and beverages to grades 4-8 ONLY

Please have a conversation with your students regarding whether or not you would like them making purchases, what their monetary limits will be, and how to make appropriate choices. In addition, please check your child’s lunch account balance on RevTrak here. If your child has a negative lunch account balance, then they will not be able to make a la carte purchases. Below is an itemized pricing list of the foods that will be available. Please note that not every item listed is available every day. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email Katie Cech, our Hot Lunch Program Coordinator.

PLEASE DO NOT RELY SOLELY ON A LA CARTE FOR LUNCH. IF ONE OF THE COUGAR CAFE STAFF IS NOT PRESENT THAT DAY, THEN THEY CAN ONLY SERVE HOT LUNCH. IN THAT CASE, THERE WILL BE NO ALA CARTE OPTIONS AVAILABLE.

Join the Children's Christmas Choir!

Our Director of Music & Liturgy, Mr. Zelinka, is putting together a Children's Choir for some of the masses during the Christmas season!

Performances will be Sunday, Dec. 10th at 2pm (with adult choir and the bell choir); and the Christmas Eve Mass on Sunday, Dec. 24th at 4pm.

Practices will be Wednesdays at 4:30pm. The first practice will be on November 8th.

Children in grades 2-8 are welcome to participate. If you are interested, you can sign your student up here!

6th Grade Girl Scouts Collecting Pop Tabs!

The 6th Grade Girl Scouts are collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. If you’d like to help, please send your pop tabs to Hana in 6th grade!

4th & 5th Grade Girl Scouts Try to Earn Bronze Award!

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is a nationally recognized achievement and is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can earn. Troops must work on a service project that will leave a lasting positive impact in the community.

Troop 11412 from 4th and 5th grade has decided to update the Wiggle Room at Church and make it more family friendly. This project will include painting, cleaning, creating artwork & adding toys, bookshelves and furniture.

Our troop will be covering most of the renovation costs, but we could use a little extra support to make this room really special. The troop is hosting an Out-Of-Uniform Day on Tuesday, November 14. Bring in your donation of $1 or more to help support this project and students can be out of uniform that day! Please send your donation in a envelope marked Troop 11412 Wiggle Room Donation.

SCRIP Makes Sense!

This week's SCRIP updates:

The holidays are coming! Some of you may wonder “What can I get my child’s teacher or a staff member for Christmas?”  Why not gift them some SCRIP Bucks?

SCRIP Bucks are gift certificates that you give to your favorite person in whatever denomination you like. ($5/$10/$25). Your gift can be redeemed for anything SCRIP sells. In the past, teachers have saved up their SCRIP Bucks and have purchased big ticket items.

This is what I call the TRIPLE WIN!

1.   Your teacher wins (because it's a gift!)

2.   You win because you will receive the credit for whatever your giftee purchases.

3.   The school wins as part of the rebate helps the bottom line.

Don't forget the other TRIPLE WIN! Purchasing SCRIP for St. Al's Dine Out Nights help you, Home & School, and the school itself! Order those Cousins gift cards today to get them in time for November 8.

Hop on the SCRIP bandwagon! Start saving towards your tuition!

Signing up for SCRIP is easy, and there is even an app to use! Register here, using the enrollment code 855F1LF31943. You can also check out our Enrollment Forms and FAQ on our school website. If you would like to order via paper order form, you can find that here.

Any questions, please email our SCRIP coordinator, Vickie Major, here.

Cougar Sports Corner

Congrats to our 7th & 8th Grade Boys Volleyball Team on their Seton Tournament run!

The Cougars played their hearts out in the Seton Tournament, but in the end, couldn't quite overcome a very skilled team from Holy Angels. Overall, the season was a success! With a record of 7 and 3, St. Alphonsus finished 2nd Place in their division, earned an invitation to the Seton, and advanced in bracket play.

Thank you to all of the families, students, and staff who supported the team this year. Their coaches--and us at school--are all very proud of their hard work these last few months.

Congratulations to

Aiden J

Aaron R

Max C

Luke R

and Derek J

on an amazing season of volleyball.

CONGRATS, COUGARS! We are so proud of you!
