Welcome The Reverend Ken Erickson to Our Team!

We are grateful to announce that The Rev. Ken Erickson has joined our team as the Interim Missioner for Congregational Vitality.

The Reverend Ken Erickson was born and raised in Chicago, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church. During his college years, he began attending an Episcopal Church, where one of his English professors served as an assisting priest. It was here that he found his spiritual home. Encouraged by the brothers at the Society of St. John the Evangelist, Rev. Erickson eventually attended Duke Divinity School and was ordained in the Diocese of North Carolina by Bishop Michael Curry. He has since served parishes in the dioceses of Oregon, Chicago, and Michigan.

In the last ten years, Rev. Erickson took a significant detour, managing 400 acres of walnuts, almonds, pecans, and olives in Sutter County, following an invitation from a family member. With great gratitude for God's perfect timing, he now looks forward to supporting the mission and ministries of our diocese.

We look forward to the experiences and fellowship that lie ahead as we work together to strengthen and support our congregations. Welcome, Rev. Erickson!

Letter from Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe on Title IV Matter Concerning Bishops Michael Curry and Todd Ousley

Dear People of God in The Episcopal Church:

Earlier this month, I announced that I had reached an accord with Bishop Prince Singh that resolved all of the Title IV matters pending against him. Today I am writing to let you know that the related Title IV matters pending against former Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and Bishop Todd Ousley, previously bishop in the Office of Pastoral Development, have been concluded with a pastoral response in keeping with Canon IV.6.8(a) and Canon IV.8. Under our disciplinary canons, a pastoral response can include actions that the respondents are required to complete as well as care for the complainants and other injured parties.

Statement from Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe on the death of President Jimmy Carter

I give thanks for the life and witness of President Jimmy Carter, who has died at the age of 100. He was a devoted peacemaker and steadfast public servant whose faithful labor for his country, his church, and the cause of global democracy and human rights has long been an inspiration to Christians across the world.

Grateful for Revival Brunch

Our understanding of Revival is that it has to do with the awakening of our hearts to Christ’s Presence, His tender, loving, kind Presence which is alive in the world today.

We have found a way that helps us open our hearts to Him. The strategy is simple. We begin with Jesus instead of a problem. This is a profound Choice. It changes everything that follows it.

Come learn more about a simple, small group process that helps us open our hearts as, through the sharing of our stories, we allow the transforming love of Christ to revive our souls and lead us to share that love with others.

New Year Thoughts from Bob Wohlsen with the Refugee Resettlement Team

Raise your hand if you have ancestors who migrated to the U.S. from a different country. Most of us do. We are “a diverse collection of global ancestries shaped by migration from distant continents and admixture of recent migrants and Native Americans.” (NIH.gov) This past year we have been inundated with the political denigration of “illegal immigrants.” Although we recognize the importance of having an orderly system for receiving those who come across our borders, our focus now is to see these people – today’s immigrants to our country – for who they are. They are a lot like our own forebearers who came here decades or centuries ago in search of safety, opportunity, and freedom. With just a bit of imagination, we can look at today’s immigrants and see in them our own parents, great-great grandparents, or even in ancestors unknown to us. So, if you raised your hand (as I did), perhaps the next time you read media critical of recent immigrants, you will think about a family member of yours who once did the same thing.
