Governor's Awards Nominations Now Open

Governor Russell W. Peterson began the tradition of honoring Delaware artists in 1970. Since then, Delaware has paid tribute to 40 distinguished individuals and organizations that have had a profound and lasting impact on the state’s artistic and cultural life.
Delaware’s Governor’s Awards for the Arts recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions and a lasting and profound impact on the artistic and cultural life of Delaware.
As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, the Delaware Division of the Arts is pleased to be facilitating the 2019 Governor’s Awards for the Arts, on behalf of Governor John C. Carney. Nominations are now being accepted for this prestigious honor in these five award categories:

I am always amazed at the range of artistry and creativity within Delaware’s borders. From craft fairs and festivals, to indoor concerts, recitals, and films, Delaware produces and presents an incredible array of programming.
And participation in the arts takes all forms. Demonstrating that diversity, here’s just a few items on my June calendar: 1) the Creative Conversation on Equity sponsored by the Delaware Arts Alliance; 2) an “
Artfulness Exhibit” presented by Easterseals, featuring the artwork of adults with physical and intellectual disabilities; a
kickoff event with First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney for the Division of Libraries’ summer reading program that reaches children and families at all 33 libraries in the state; and
a reception and recognition event for the Division’s 2019 Artist Fellowship recipients at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover.
All of this is possible through the dedication, commitment, and conviction of artists, cultural organizations, and patrons throughout the state. It helps, too, that Delaware has such a supportive administration and legislature. We are fortunate to have leadership that recognizes the importance of the creative sector in the lives of its constituents; in our schools, our economy, and our communities.

Arts, Culture & Heritage Preservation Field Days, or ArCH, is a program designed to engage 4th grade students in exploring Delaware’s past and present through hands-on activity stations located throughout the First State Heritage Park and the First State National Historical Park in Dover.
This year, 24 partner organizations hosted 825 students and 117 teachers and chaperones from 12 Delaware schools. The Delaware Division of the Arts participated with a visual arts activity focused on the design of the Old State House.

Shelter
by Ekaterina Popova
|
|
Shelter, an exhibition of oil and watercolor paintings by Ekaterina Popova, will be on view in the Mezzanine Gallery from June 7-28, 2019. The artist will host a free opening reception on Friday, June 7 from 5-7 p.m.
Utilizing her expressionistic style, Popova paints vibrant scenes of intimate interiors, personal items, scenes from travel and more. The interest in interior spaces started as a way for her to reflect on her upbringing in Russia, but eventually progressed to exploring the overall idea of “home” and what it means to her now. The work has slowly evolved from being reflective and sentimental to being mindful and present in the current environment.
|
Visitors to the Gallery should enter via the courtyard doors on French Street and take the elevators to the Mezzanine level due to renovations in the building.
|
|
The Mezzanine Gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is located in the
Carvel State Office Building, 820 N. French Street, Wilmington.
