Mayor Taylor's Message:

It has been so great to see everyone's faces out and about enjoying our local businesses, our parks and trails, and this lovely (albeit dry) spring weather. We are experiencing a very dry spring which means this year's fire season will be starting early. I want to take this opportunity to highlight the good work that is being done in the community to reduce our risk....

Project Spotlight: Public Safety Building

Female locker room.jpg

Placerville Police Station

Designed in 1975 and constructed in 1978, the current facility was built during a time when law enforcement was male dominated and lacks a adequate female locker room.

Thankfully, our profession as become more inclusive, and we are proud that female team members make up 37% of our current staff. However, our female officers are forced to change in a space that was originally the fire annex bathroom and reflects one of many equitable shortcomings in both design and function of our current facility. This and many other reasons are why we are in need of a new Placerville Public Safety Building.

Apparatus Bay Comparisons.JPG

Fire Station 25, Placerville

Built in 1950 to standards fitting fire apparatus (engines) from the era, Station 25 has seen many changes in both equipment and needs while operating as the single highest call volume station in El Dorado County.

To compare, the largest fire engine from the 1950 photo is smaller than the present day Medic unit (far right in both photos). Both the Duty Chief truck and the current Engine 25 wheels extend into the sidewalk on Sacramento Street while their rear wheels are still inside the bay. Put simply, this 1950's facility wasn't built to handle the sizes of modern day equipment. Just one more example of why Placerville is in need of a new Public Safety Building.

Sharon Campbell

WRF Lab Director

IMG_0467.JPG

Sharon has been with the City since 2008. Her duties include routine testing of the City's drinking water as well as testing the treated wastewater to verify plant functionality and that the requirements of compliance to be discharged into Hangtown Creek are being met. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time in nature and with animals (especially horses) and science. One of her favorite "extras" of her job is that she's able to see deer come up to the lab window for a visit. Next time you see Sharon around town, say "Hi!"

Thank you for your dedication and service, Sharon!
