Apply Now for Reimagining Education Project Funds
Do you need help funding your innovative idea to help your students succeed? OSPI has launched the Reimagining Education Project (REP) to fund an out-of-the-box idea you want to investigate. CSTP is working on the project and will mentor and support grantees as they bring their ideas to life. The REP supports pilots planning through June 2023 led by educators or schools/programs to:

  • Investigate an innovative approach to learning in an in-person setting, or
  • Investigate instructional and/or social emotional practices in Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) and online settings

Grant funds are approved on a rolling basis until fully expended. Funds will financially support local pilots, provide regular professional learning and networking, collect evidence on successful practices, and lead to the development of a menu of innovative practices to support continued transformation of our education system and inform future policy and funding decisions.

Inclusionary PLC’s - July 27-28
This session is designed to increase collaboration between special education teachers and educators and their general education colleagues in order to increase inclusionary practices. Rooted in CSTP’s Teacher Leadership Framework it will highlight the need for all teachers to elevate their leadership skills in order to work together for all students in all classrooms. After attending this course, educators will be able to leverage partnerships to capitalize on the knowledge and strengths of special education teachers, incorporate special education teachers into the regular work and structures in collaborative teams, and create team culture to value the knowledge and skills of all, and truly think of the growth and inclusion of all students.

Collaboration and Communication for Equity Focused Teacher Leadership - July 28-29
If you’ve experienced CSTP’s Teacher Leadership Framework before or not at all, you’ll want to attend this new session to explore the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to lead equity focused conversations with colleagues. During this session participants will explore components of teacher leadership with a focus on the communication and collaboration skills necessary to have hard conversations about race and equity in our schools and systems. Educators will have an opportunity to investigate and reflect on their own strengths and areas for growth. We will model and practice the use of protocols and structures to support difficult and necessary learning focused conversations to increase collaboration. Participants will leave this session with a solid foundation for understanding teacher leadership, as well as practical resources they can implement immediately with colleagues in order to more effectively work together for the benefit of the students we serve.

WEA MOC Jump Start Registration Now Open
In 2020, the National Board introduced the requirements for MOC. NBCTs with certificate expiration dates in 2022 and 2023 are eligible for candidacy in 2021-22. Please visit this NBPTS link for additional details around eligibility.

The Washington Education Association's (WEA) MOC Jump Start training series guides participants through the requirements in a collaborative environment with other NBCTs. To Acknowledge History Is to Be Radical by Jan Kragen
"At that point in the lesson, one of my students Aleesha raised her hand. She said, 'Mrs. Kragen, I would rather live through five years of a pandemic than live through the Great Depression.'"

The Freedom to Read by Emma-Kate Schaake
"I was reminded that issues of intellectual freedom and censorship in school libraries are everywhere. Stories like this one that don’t make national headlines are even more unsettling for their insidiousness."

Identifying Students for Highly Capable Programs by Jan Kragen
"Imagine that a district limits itself to a single test. You may have a child who delights in that type of test question and who is comfortable with that type of testing situation. On the other hand, you may have a child who finds that kind of test question boring or who is distressed at the testing situation. If those same children have identical abilities, the first child is going to have a higher test score."
