Message from the Principal

Welcome back, Cristo Rey students and families!

It has been wonderful to see our halls filled with excitement and enthusiasm as we begin a new school year together. The energy in the building has been amazing which makes sense because we have had a 98% attendance rate for our students this week!

On Monday, Dr. Lex Brown hosted our Back To School Fun Day Cookout where new and returning students made new friends or caught up with old ones. This event was great because Mr. Robinson and Mr. Cashio played music while cooking up some hot dogs on the grill, students and faculty played soccer on the field or walked around the track, some of the students (and faculty!) splashed around on the water slide, and Mr. Smith and Mrs. Thomas served up Sno-Cones to everyone. On Tuesday, Mrs. Hall served up "walking tacos" and had a piñata party in the cafeteria. On Wednesday and Thursday, Ms. Gardner and Mr. Hornbuckle had karaoke in their rooms during lunch. And today, Father Phil and Mr. McCormick celebrated Mass with our students and their families. What an amazing week!

Our students also traveled to their Corporate Work Study jobs and met their supervisors this week. All of the students will start their jobs next week. We are so proud of the professionalism and confidence our students have already demonstrated as they prepare to take on this important responsibility and represent Cristo Rey in the workplace.

This incredible start reflects the commitment of our students, families, faculty, and staff to making this year our best one yet. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to challenge, support, and inspire our students to grow academically, professionally, and personally. We are excited for all that this year will bring and look forward to celebrating many accomplishments together!

Lastly, we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, August 18th from 5:30-7:30 for our Meet the Teachers Night! Come walk the halls, meet the PTO, and visit all of your student's teachers. We will see you there!

Announcements

We are excited to invite all parents, guardians, and students to our upcoming Meet the Teachers Night on Tuesday, August 18th. This is a great opportunity to connect with our school community and learn more about your child's education. This event will start at 5:30 PM and end at about 7:30 PM.

Please enter through the main entrance to pick up your child's class schedule. From there, you will follow your child's class schedule to meet their teachers and learn about the subjects they are studying this year. Attending this event is an important way to stay engaged in your child's education and help them succeed.

We hope to see you and your student at the Meet the Teacher Night next Tuesday, August 18th at 5:30 PM. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school at 205-787-9937. Your participation is crucial to your child's success—see you there!

Attention Students: Please make sure to fully charge your iPad every night! All students are expected to bring their school-issued iPad (not a personal iPad or laptop) to school every day.

Help Us Spread the Word: It’s Not Too Late to Join Cristo Rey!

Do you know a family still searching for the right high school? Maybe a friend or neighbor is considering a change, or they’re simply curious about what makes the Cristo Rey experience different.

Help us spread the word! Cristo Rey Birmingham is still accepting applications for students in grades 9–11, and limited spaces remain for the 2026-2027 school year.

Our Cristo Rey families are some of our best ambassadors. If someone you know could benefit from a college-prep education, real-world experience through our Corporate Work Study Program, and a community committed to helping every student succeed, encourage them to learn more!

Interested families can call or text our Admissions team at 205-202-1291 to get started. It’s not too late to become a Tornado! 🌪️
