"Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom."
Oprah Winfrey
.
Dear Southern Door Community,
As we get ready to celebrate a long Memorial Day weekend, please take the opportunity to thank any of the veterans in our community for their service beyond themselves, and their families to protect our freedoms. We have six graduates who will be entering the military this year, so the tradition of military service in Southern Door remains Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!
It's been an exciting week with field trips, a packed auditorium for awesome music concerts, and of course, our spring athletes going on in regional and sectional competitions. Congratulations to the softball team who won the Packerland Conference Championship!
As the school year draws to a close with just one more week of school, please take time to savor the "journey" you and your child have experienced this year! The journey is, of course, different for all students, as they navigate their K-12 career experience of both successes and challenges along the way. Whether your child is one of our youngest or our oldest students, it is evident how important the partnership we have with you is in helping your child reach their individual goals. It is, indeed, our core values which define us as a school community - from generation to generation!
It truly does take a village to educate children, and we are so fortunate that so many in Southern Door and beyond, contribute to our school community being Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!
Patti
Patricia Vickman, Superintendent

LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR TRADES
Mr. Dave Rouer, a local business owner of Rouer’s Road House came up with a great idea for a scholarship to promote the working trades careers. He had many comments from customers about the need to support the trades. With the help of several small business owners in the Southern Door area he sponsored fundraisers and collected straight up donations for a scholarship fund. He formed the Gardner Community Foundation and was able to award 3 scholarships of $750 each this school year.
Congratulations to Heath Kennedy, planning a career in carpentry, Shawn Stanzel for CNC machining, and Nathan Kaczmarek, electrical power distribution. All three graduates will be attending NWTC. A big thank you to Mr. Rouer for making this happen.
