2026 Youth Medical Missions Summit and Internship

Lodge Room at Moore's Keep

Summit

Thirty-six high school students from multiple states descended on Moore’s Keep facilities the first week of June this year for the 3rd Medical Mission Summit through Operation Renewed Hope.

Held in Robbins, NC, this was the first Summit in the Southeast, striving to follow and teach Christ’s ministry pattern, as did missionaries such as Hudson Taylor, William Carey, and David Livingstone.

ORH was blessed to have four veteran missionary instructors who use ORH medical missions instructing the youth: Kenneth Ellzey to Bolivia, John Paul Moses to India, Joe Risinger to Uganda, and Jim Childress to Panama. They spoke about their respective ministries using ORH medical clinics during breakout sessions. They also exhorted the young people in Biblical challenges throughout the Summit schedule.

Amy Carmichael in India

"In 1912, money and workers were available that helped fund a hospital at Dohnavur. By 1913, the Dohnavur Fellowship was serving 130 girls. In 1918, Dohnavur added a home for young boys, many born to the former temple prostitute." (Wekipedia; 6 May 2026)

Hudson Taylor in China

His work combined evangelism with a strong emphasis on medical service as part of his missionary strategy....

At 17, he experienced a religious conversion and dedicated himself to missionary work To prepare, he studied.... in Hull he worked as a medical assistant, gaining practical experience in surgery and medicine. He later completed his medical training at the London Hospital Medical College

In breakout sessions, Christy Holshouser, FNPc, lead a group of medical mission nurses instructing in medical procedures and demonstrations, always emphasizing the mission field.

Harry Gibson DDS, demonstrated and lectured on the use of dental tools, dental imaging, cleaning of dental equipment and how to use dentistry emphasizing the mission field.

Ken Higgins, an optician, and his wife Kristine demonstrated the use of the auto-refractor to assess someone’s vision and appropriately prescribe glasses for a patient. They even demonstrated a special gospel presentation.

Stephen Powers, firefighter/paramedic gave a lecture on Situational Awareness that can be applied to the mission field as well as everyday life.

Dan Jones, PA and Director of ORH, also spoke on career pathways that can lead to medical missions.

Youth had opportunity to interact closely with men and women of God who are actively living and sharing the Word of God in their respective jobs here in the USA or other countries. The Summit not only included a saturation of medical missions and its modern impact, but it also included fun times and, of course, good food. Please take the time to visit the ORH website and join us at our next Medical Mission Summit or Boot Camp.

Internship

Operation Renewed Hope offers, to qualifying youth, a two-year internship program teaching a pathway to medical missions, guidance to medical school, definition of medical missions, and specialized training in medical missions.

The internship program consists of in-depth interviews with current medical missionaries; studying biographies of medical missionaries who changed missions in their time; viewing medical video library contents; attending a Summits, Boot Camps, and medical mission trips, and numerous other interactions with Operation Renewed Hope.

At differing stages of completion, currently, eight interns are engaged in this program. As students show interest and motivation, ORH will arrange a short-term mission stay with one of our participating missionary families.

For those in the medical field or interested in the medical field, the door is open for carrying the Gospel around the world with medical skills. Contact ORH regarding your opportunity to be an intern with ORH.

2026 Jamaica Housing Update

Looking down on this man's restored home structure.

SUCCESSIVE ACTIONS

Missionary and Pastor Oral Anderson has worked with ORH since Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025, causing great damage. He has truly been a blessing with his attention to detail concerning the use of funds, planning actions, and finishing plans.

Below is an example of the attention that he has given to the needs of his people, and how to best solve those needs in his work with ORH. Working with ORH is not easy because of required reports in writing, pictures and videos for verification, and receipts for purchased materials or payment or services.

His last report included his planning and pictures of one of the homes that he is agonizing over about the receipts.

"1. Figure out the need.

2. Order and pay for the material at the hardware store.

3. Give the receipt to the recipient so they can arrange transportation.

This minimized me paying for the transportation, thus freeing more cash to purchase more material. It also makes them have some “skin in the game”.

The disadvantage is that sometimes I do not get the receipts (whether in time or at all). Most people here do not retain receipts…so they might end up losing our receipts.

The other down side is that I am not always/usually available when they are picking up their material from the store. Therefore, I usually do not capture that in photos.

If need me to, I could go by their houses and take photos of what they’ve done with the material."

He attempts to do things decently and in order. Please pray for Pastor Anderson; he needs more funds to help others restore their homes. Because there was not enough money, Pastor Anderson took the money out of his own funds to help families rebuild. ORH sent $10,000 to help him with the money that he has paid from his own funds. Pray for the people. The small dwellings are needed so that they do not have to live in the open.

Proverbs 3:27–28

27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thine hand to do it. 28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; When thou hast it by thee.
