When we first arrived in the Dominican Republic I gave our youth one question to think about throughout the week, “Where have you seen God this week?”
On our last night together, the kids went around one by one, talking about the ways they had seen God over the course of our week up in the mountains in the remote village of La Guama. I’ll never forget their answers:
“I saw God in the masons. They work so hard to provide safe homes for people in their community. They were so patient with us, and even though we didn’t speak the same language, they showed us what to do and how to be safe on a construction site through their actions.”
“I saw God in the faces of the many kids in La Guama. They gave us so many hugs and I know we gave each other so much joy.”
“I saw God in the beauty that surrounded us. From the mountains to the river, we were surrounded by such beauty and we often forget just how beautiful our world is.”
“I saw God in the Ramirez family. It really made me think about how much I take for granted. They were so grateful to have a home that didn’t flood every time it rains. They were so grateful to have a home where they feel safe.”
I could go on and on. This past week reminded me just how fortunate I am to work with the youth of LAC. During our time in the DR, I witnessed them step out of their comfort zones and grow physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Please come to worship this Sunday to learn more about our experience and hear some stories from our youth.
