Welcome to the Forest!

We hope that here at Wake Forest, you’ll find a residential experience where you can thrive socially and intellectually alongside your peers within a secure, comfortable, inclusive and engaging learning community.

Living on campus is where the memories are made. This is where you belong. From all of our staff to you, welcome to Wake!
Your first year community is ...
Good Morning -

We're so excited to welcome you to Johnson Residence Hall in just under a month. To view your specific room assignment and roommate (if applicable), as well as schedule your move-in appointment, you will need to visit the Housing Portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal.

Johnson Residence Hall is named for the University’s first dean of women, Lois Johnson. It opened in 1955 and was renovated in 2015. It faces Reynolda Hall across the lower quad and lies next to Bostwick Residence Hall on the south end of campus.
Dean Johnson welcomed the first cohort of female students in 1942 and defended their rights to equality with men. Dean Johnson retired in 1962.

Johnson Hall houses first-year students in a co-ed corridor-style layout. Additionally, the building features a formal parlor, lounges on each floor, a shared kitchen and balconies on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
Spring 2022: Luter Hall
We wanted to provide you a bit of context along with your housing assignment as you will have a split assignment this year.

As such, we wanted to make you fully aware of a few extra considerations as you plan for your year on campus.

You will transition to the newly renovated Luter Hall for the spring semester because of planned renovations at Bostwick and Johnson Halls in the spring of 2022.

This move will be facilitated by our office and our moving partners. We are designing a process that we hope will require minimal extra effort from you. Below, you’ll find a timeline and highlights around what we expect this transition will look like.

TIMELINE
  • August 2021 - Move-In: Check-in at the LJVM and then arrive on campus and move into your room assignment in Bostwick or Johnson
  • November 2021 - Packing materials arrive at your hall. On your preferred timeline, pack up your belongings for movers.
  • December 2021 - Finals week and buildings close. Before leaving, ensure your room has been completely packed.
  • January 2022 - Arrive back at campus. Your belongings will have been moved to your new room assignment in Luter.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Those with singles for the fall will note they have been assigned a roommate. This will be your roommate in the spring semester in your new shared room in Luter. We hope that you use the fall semester to get to know your future roommate and prepare to share a space.
  • In November, you will receive packing materials. The early arrival of these items is designed to give you time and flexibility as you begin to get your room ready for professional movers, rather than to feel a crunch to complete all of your packing and finals at one time.
  • Before leaving campus, you will need to ensure that any belongings you do not bring home with you are packed and ready for movers. Over the break, all of your belongings will be transported to your new room assignment in Luter by professional movers.
  • You will be granted early access in January to arrive on campus for time to unpack and ready your new room in Luter ahead of the spring semester.

We are still working with our partners on the final floor plans for Luter Hall. We expect those to be available in the coming weeks and will share them with you as soon as possible.

Throughout the semester, we will be in touch with updates and reminders as the transition approaches. We look forward to welcoming you home to Wake Forest and are very excited to offer you the first chance to live in the newly renovated Luter Hall!
Faculty Fellows
The Faculty Fellows Program was created to build community and increase faculty-student engagement, especially outside of the classroom, providing engaging discussions and activities within and beyond our residence halls.

Faculty Fellows are a group of faculty members assigned to your residence hall who will plan community-building events, and be available for informal interaction and advising.
The Faculty Fellows for Johnson Hall are:
  • Ananda Mitra - Communication
  • Swati Basu – Physics
Residence Life and Housing Staff
Your Graduate Hall Director (GHD) is a graduate student who assists in the general management of your residence hall including the supervision of the RAs. You will learn more about - and likely hear from - your resident adviser (RA) closer to move-in.

Your Community Director (CD) is a full-time master’s-level, live-in professional who manages multiple residential communities. They supervise the RAs and GHDs and work to ensure that all students have a positive residential experience.
