Mission Stories

Loads of Hope

Last week, United Ministry of Aurora volunteers spent the afternoon loading up donated items to take to North Carolina. The supplies are heading to a rural community who are desperately in need of help.

We want to hear about the mission stories from our Presbytery's worshiping communities. What mission work are you involved in? How are your members working in the community? What story would you like to share with others in the Presbytery?

Send any mission stories from your congregation that you would like to share to: CaySyrNews@gmail.com.

Deadline is 12 p.m. on Wednesdays for the current week's edition of

Presbytery Matters.

We want to share your stories, missions, activities and more. Also, make sure to like our Facebook page by clicking the "Facebook" icon at the top of this newsletter.

We are asking our churches to share this newsletter with your members each week. Click the button below to forward the email or to obtain the newsletter link.

On Reformation Day, remembering the call to

confess our faith in every age

Special committee considers what we need to address as a church

By Beth Waltemath

Presbyterian News Service

On Oct. 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This past Sunday, many congregations celebrated this event as a catalyst for the way the Reformed faith came to be and continues to understand its calling.

“Presbyterians celebrate the tradition that grounds their faith on Reformation Sunday,” according to the Presbyterian Historical Society, which publishes bulletin inserts highlighting a significant figure or event in the Reformation.

But reform is not just history for Presbyterians. It is also a concern for the present.

“As Christians, our faith began with the followers of Jesus. But the beginning of our Christian faith as Presbyterian is in the Reformation,” says the PC(USA)’s webpage to commemorate Reformation Sunday. “The Reformation marks something significant for us in this part of the universal church: the coalescence of our focus on the Holy Spirit’s ongoing reform of us as a church and as individuals.”

Three presbyteries join for Matthew 25 Mid-Atlantic Summit

Baltimore, National Capital and New Castle presbyteries celebrate the movement

By Shani E. McIlwain|

Presbyterian News Service

Nestled on seven acres named Presbyterian Circle, over 150 Presbyterians from three presbyteries — Baltimore, National Capital and New Castle — came together on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Howard County for what was dubbed the Matthew 25 Mid-Atlantic Summit.

Inspired by the Matthew 25 Summit, hosted in Atlanta earlier this year by the Presbyterian Mission Agency, Mid-Atlantic Summit Co-Chair Charese Jordan Moore was determined to bring the same energy back home. Alongside the Rev. Pat Jackson, executive director of Interwoven Congregations and parish associate at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, Moore rallied attendees from the three presbyteries, and their hard work paid off.

Moore reflected on the experience of the January meeting she had with other members from her presbytery. She said the experience at the Matthew 25 Summit in Atlanta truly ignited a passion among members of the Presbytery of Baltimore. Just as they were inspired to embrace the Matthew 25 movement after a Synod of the Mid-Atlantic meeting, the attendees returned from Atlanta feeling a deep connection to the broader church community. Their enthusiasm centered on implementing the Matthew 25 vision, recognizing its potential to revitalize their congregations.
