From Your Administrative Team

Hello Da Vinci Connect Families,

We want to share with you a communication that was recently sent to families at our Da Vinci High Schools around concerning social media use. While we are not aware of any similar incidents at the K8, we feel that it is important to share with our community, especially because we also support students with appropriate technology use, and the resources our colleagues shared with families at the end of the message are relevant to our students, as well. Please read the message below and reach out to Kaitlin with any questions or information you might have.

We also want to acknowledge that technology, cell phones, social media, and screen time is a big topic. As we continue to reflect on our current policies, practices ,and expectations, we would love your feedback on THIS quick survey around your thoughts on cell phones during the school day.

Kaitlin will also be hosting a PEC workshop on the 27th on this topic, and we encourage you to attend!

Thank You,

Kaitlin (she/her) and Robin (she/her)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I’m writing to you today with a message about a concerning trend in social media usage from our students.  We’ve been made aware of several accounts on Instagram that appear to be impersonating official Da Vinci Schools accounts. Specifically, these accounts often post photos or content about other staff and students in our community without their permission. These accounts typically have Da Vinci in their name, may use Da Vinci Schools graphics as the profile picture, and are often set to “private” so that only people who follow the account can see the content. The posts are hurtful to our community and we need your help in taking action against them. Accounts that we are currently aware of include: @davincibleeders and @davinci_ships . Again, these accounts are not authorized by Da Vinci Schools.

Please inspect your student’s social media accounts today and regularly.  If you do find any of these accounts on your child’s accounts, please take the following steps:

  • Report these posts directly to the social media platforms. Social media companies may not respond to one or two reports, but if there are many reports about pages or posted content, they are more likely to respond.
  • Check all of your child’s potential accounts. Students frequently have more than one account, and it is important for you to know who they are following and what kind of content they are interacting with.
  • Report any threatening language toward the school or students to your site administrators; please include as many details as possible including names, screenshots, dates and times, etc.
  • Have conversations with your child about the harm that these posts cause to the community.

According to local authorities, the best way to immediately address unauthorized photos or posts is to report them to the social media platforms directly. Below are two resources: one to help you make a report across social media sites, and one that shares helpful tips and guidelines for parents/guardians.
