As we approach Winter Break, we know that there are holidays and family events that are top of mind. We also know that January 3rd will be here before we know it and staff and families are wondering what our district is considering in regards to mitigation efforts.
We continue to monitor data to inform our decision making in regards to mitigating COVID: the county positivity rate, county transmission level, county 0-17 age group reported cases, and our district positivity rate. Due to the increased access to vaccinations for children ages 5-11 as well as booster access for individuals over the age of 16, we realize that is a necessary factor to consider when assessing masking mitigation.
We realize that community gatherings that happen during this time of year may impact the spread of illness, including COVID-19. The county rate is certainly on the rise over the past several weeks. As always, we will monitor the data after Winter Break, including the percentage of our students and staff members who are vaccinated, and take all data into consideration in making future recommendations. We will update our community after Winter Break.
This is the season for colds, flus, and other viruses, so please do continue to take care of yourselves:
- Frequent hand washing and sanitizing
- Healthy eating
- Daily sleep—8 hours per night
- Prevention of spread: cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing; wash hands after blowing nose, coughing or sneezing; carry tissues; use antibacterial wipes for personal spaces/desks
- Physical health—get outdoors, utilize PE courses, play at recess, go for family walks, stretch muscles
- Mental health—provide time to “decompress”—rest, relaxing activities, yoga/meditation/breathing exercises
Be safe and healthy.
