Orwellian Ministry of Truth, Effort to Keep Public Records from the Public, Here Come the Lawnmower Bans, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development's “Fair Requirements” rules are being used extensively in Colorado Springs. These rules incentivize the use of taxpayer money to build “affordable housing” and apartment complexes in what are seen as wealthier neighborhoods. How is this being used in Colorado Springs? Sit back and enjoy our latest original article, and learn all the sordid and unfair details of this major social engineering effort.

  • This social engineering of housing is playing out right now in the Pine Creek neighborhood in Colorado Springs. City Council is scheduled to review an appeal by neighbors of the proposed Royal Pine Apartment development on February 26th.

  • Democrats in the Colorado Legislature are actively working to suppress information from you. They want to greatly expand the number of records that can be exempt from Colorado Open Records (CORA) requests. They plan to restrict document delivery to “vexatious”, or annoying, citizens. We at Springs Taxpayers United are highly annoying to those who abuse their government positions and taxpayer dollars, so they probably mean folks like us. What do you think they are so eager to hide from the people they swore an oath to represent? When they show you what they are, believe them.

  • As a reminder, legislative democrats are also working to install a Ministry of Truth. This would allow the Attorney General to police online speech, and only allow “truth” to be spoken that serves their totalitarian purposes. These two measures are way out of bounds, and Democrats know it. They just don’t care that we know it.

  • Here’s some of the information the Ministry of Truth would likely suppress. A social media account named @DoBetterdnvr_, which uses X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to document the filth, depravity, and drug use taking place all over Denver, is being blasted by the Denver Mayor for simply documenting the results of his policies. When the truth is uncomfortable, they simply suppress and lie.

  • This week in First Steps: The legislature is planning to ban all gas-powered lawn equipment for workers on state property. The second step, we are certain, is banning gas-powered lawn equipment for you. As usual, our totalitarians are copying California totalitarians, because they aren’t very smart or original.

  • The federal government has given Colorado Springs $2.8 million in taxpayer dollars to assist homeless people. These funds will be distributed to various non-profit organizations in town.

  • Some street people in our region are complaining about the lack of shelter space on cold nights. This makes us wonder where all the millions and millions and millions in past aid have gone.

  • Colorado Springs City Councilman Dave Donelson has additional comments about the recent city council decision to declare Colorado Springs a non-sanctuary city.

  • Mayor Yemi Mobolade, of Colorado Springs, conducted a news conference Thursday morning. He gave updates on the migrant crisis in Colorado Springs coming from Denver, taxpayer-funded “affordable housing”, and rumors of the Olympic organization leaving Colorado Springs. He seemed a bit uncomfortable in this address. You can view it here.

  • The anti-automobile activists in the Colorado Legislature want to eliminate the current parking space minimums required for residential and commercial developments. They think this will force people to drive less, and will also allow more building densification, or infill.

  • A recent study shows more people are moving out of Colorado than in. Forcing taxpayers to subsidize the democrat-preferred populations of street vagrants, criminals, and illegal aliens may have something to do with this trend.

  • One downtown Denver restaurant suddenly closed this week, citing an inability to absorb the cost of Denver’s new minimum wage hike, as well as a lack of potential customers going downtown. One quote from the article describes the problem clearly: "Liberal policies are making urban areas worse. I appreciate the wanting to do good, but these policies only end up with the population all experiencing a lower quality of life.” We’ve heard this sentiment expressed somewhere before.

  • A recent news article suggested that Denver Mayor Mike Johnston would like to form a partnership with Grand Junction and Fort Collins to house the illegal immigrants flooding into Denver. The response from the Mesa County Commissioner is a hard no. You broke it, you bought it, Mr. Mayor.

  • “Environmental Justice”: Unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats are targeting 105 companies in Colorado, and are stealing from them. This will save the earth, we are told. This licensed criminal activity on the part of the government gives us another opportunity to reference the Winston Churchill quote from above.

  • As an aside, the photo used in the above story is a photo of steam being emitted from a power plant. Yet, the media links this photo to a story about pollution. Steam is vaporized water, not toxic waste. Is the use of this photo an accident, or is this propaganda? What’s your guess, comrades?

  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Colorado hospitals are training for a potential biological terror attack. This is likely standard training, but how much more likely is a terror attack because our southern border is wide open, and many illegal immigrants from Syria, China, and other countries potentially hostile to the United States are crossing into our country untraced?

  • The Calhan Police Department recently announced they are working with a local non-profit to allow vagrants to build a tent city in Calhan. Calhan residents are not pleased.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
