Summer Camp Registration Opens Soon!
|
|
With the success of Summer 2021 still fresh in our thoughts, its time to turn our attention to the next amazing adventure. Yes, it is almost Registration Day! On Monday, November 1st at 7:00 p.m. families can begin to register for Summer Camp 2022!
We anticipate sessions filling quickly this year and I encourage you to sign up for the online waiting list if you find your preferred session is already full when you register. As the last couple of years have taught us that sessions begin filling up earlier each summer camp season.
If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming summer, please feel free to reach out to me at anytime (phone 705 652-3860, extension 201) or email: james@campkawartha.ca
Backed by the support of our camper families and heartened by the knowledge that our Covid-19 protocols not only work in keeping our campers safe, but minimally disrupt their summer camp experience, we know that Summer 2022 will be nothing short of amazing! We hope to see you there!
Cheers,
James White, Summer Camp Registrar

Monarch Ultra Marathon Update
|
|
The Monarch Ultra team braved high winds, rain, hot and warm temperatures as they bravely ran throughout Southern Ontario to raise awareness for monarch butterflies and other pollinators. Covering 1,800 kms in just over 21 days and involving 50 ultrarunners, these monarch heroes connected with hundreds of people and inspired them to engage in conservation and climate action. Through the Monarch Ultra relay run and Virtual 10km, over $10,000 was raised for Camp Kawartha. These funds will support environmental programming for children of all ages.

CAMP BOYS ENTERTAINED
Are Guests of Rotary Club at Oyster Supper in the Armouries.
The boys who attended the Rotary Camp last summer were the guests of the Peterborough Rotary Club at a most enjoyable re-union held in the Armouries last evening. Each Rotarian was assigned the task of bringing one of the boys, and the result was an attendance of practically every youngster who was at camp. It was a night of enjoyment, not only for the boys but for their hosts, who intend to keep in touch with their guests throughout the winter.
The first part of the evening was devoted to indoor baseball, the youngsters being divided into two squads and two games being played at once, a make-shift diamond at the west end of the Armouries making the second game possible. Afterwards the Rotarians themselves had a battle royal, in which some new talent for the next Soft Ball League was uncovered.

A Farewell from our Summer Camp Director
|
|
Adam 'Wham' Strasberg has been a staple of our Camp Kawartha family for the past 19 years. He has spent the past 17 years guiding, growing, and leading our wonderful summer camp team and supporting families as Summer Camp Director.
He has left a lasting imprint on Camp Kawartha and our community. Everyone has a Wham story ... or three, and I think we can all attest to having been impacted by his care, support, boundless energy, and endless love for all that is summer camp!
Thank you Wham for your many years of dedication and the incredible community you have nurtured!

Animal Showcase: Migrators & Migration
|
|
The cooler weather has arrived and with it the natural world begins its next cycle. Leaves fall, frogs stock up on insects, and chipmunks top up their larders. It’s a busy, busy season as animals, plants, birds, and insects get ready for the season yet to come.
Migration is really about adaptation, food, temperature, and habitat. Those animals, birds, and insects that can adapt will remain and go dormant, hibernate, or provide for the next generation to emerge in spring. Those that have not adapted are driven south to find food – the biggest driver of movement -- and of course temperature and habitat also come into the mix.
