From the Desk of Fr. Mike Nacius, Pastor
Over the summer we made some improvements and upgrades on our campuses regarding  technology and surveillance capabilities for the safety and security of students, parishion ers, staff, and guests at St. Mary's school and church. I am informing you of this in case you were curious and inquisitive regarding the signs around campus that state "video surveillance is in use on these premises." This project was made possible by the donors who supported our parish case statement for the "To Teach Who Christ Is" Capital Campaign.

Earlier this year Cardinal Cupich called priests serving in the Archdiocese of Chicago to gather for their triennial convocation from June 18 through June 21. This gathering was an important and necessary time of spiritual renewal for the priests, so that they can better serve the People of God in parishes and Archdiocesan ministries.

This week, Cardinal Cupich is calling parish leadership to a two day Renew My Church Summit on October 1 and 2 in Rosemont, IL. Attending are Archdiocesan priests, religious order priests, principals, Direc tors of Religious Education, Pastoral Associates, members of Parish Pastoral Councils, and other key leaders in pa rishes. The two day gathering of parish leadership will focus on the "why" and the "how" behind creating vital parish communities through Renew My Church. Creating a culture of evangelization is central to successfully achieving the goals of Renew My Church , making disciples, building community and inspiring witness.

This Renew My Church Summit is part of the larger Renew My Church process in our Archdiocese. Your prayers, joined with prayers of parishioners across the  Archdiocese of Chicago for the ongoing success of Renew My Church are appreciated.

According to the National Institute of Health, in a given year about one in four people have a diagnosable mental disorder, such as depression, bi-polar disease, and schizophrenia, among others. Deacon Dan Welter and other deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago have developed a program in response to these important issues and needs.

If you would like to learn more about mental health, what you can do to help family and friends who suffer with a mental illness you are encouraged to attend this seminar at St. Mary of the Annunciation (SMOTA) in Mundelein and St. Mary of Vernon (SMOV) in Indian Head Creek. These two parishes are partnering in a 5 part series of weekly informational meetings. All the meetings are from 7:00 - 8:30pm.

The dates at St. Mary of Annunciation, 22333 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein, Il 60060, are 10/8, 10/15 and 11/5. The meeting room is off the narthex in the new church. The new church is next to the large parking lot at the end of the driveway.

The dates at St. Mary of Vernon Parish Center, 236 U.S. Highway 45, Indian Creek, Il 60061, are 10/22 and 10/29. Drive straight onto the parish grounds to the building at the far end of the driveway. For more information, contact Deacon Al Sedivy (SMOTA) at uscals1@yahoo.com or Deacon Jerry Nora (SMOV) at geinora@aol.com . There will be additional information and articles in the next four bulletins. Please feel free to share this information with all who would benefit from learning more about mental illness and mental health.

The following prayer by William Breault, SJ is a beautiful prayer for all who follow Jesus in our world so often torn by division or separated by prejudice or bias.

Lord Christ, help us to see what it is that joins us together, not what separates us. For when we see only what it is that makes us different, we too often become aware of what is wrong with others. We see only their faults and weaknesses, interpreting their actions as flowing from malice and hatred rather than fear. Even when confronted with evil, Lord, you forgave and sacrificed yourself rather than sought revenge. Teach us to do the same by the power of your Spirit. - William Breault, SJ

Next Saturday we will be recognizing couples that were married in 1993, celebrating their 25 th wedding anniversary. May God bless, strengthen and encourage all married couples in living out their vows. A special blessing will be prayed for couples attending the 5:00pm evening Mass on October 6.

God bless you with an Alleluia heart this day.
