Legislative update
Here's a legislative update for the campus community from Jennifer Breiwa Smith, Special Assistant to the President for Government & Community Relations:

The 2019 General Assembly adjourned Thursday night for the 10-day veto period. They will reconvene on Thursday, March 28, for the final day of the legislative session to pass outstanding legislation and override any vetoed legislation.

House Bill 358, the higher education pension reform bill, has not received final passage yet. We will continue to advocate over the veto period for passage of HB358, which will provide security for employees and stability and predictability in our budgeting process. Additionally, we will continue working to ensure those employees who wish to remain in KERS have that option. Please reach out to me with any questions.

Thank you for all you do for our University.

Spotlight: Student research
Murray Huber, a senior from Louisville, recently completed a project to learn the effects of jump rope camps on refugee populations. “I hope that jump rope can help strengthen refugee communities specifically by providing an outlet and a space for fun, allowing refugees to learn a new skill but also be creative and share their ideas with others, form friendships by working with others, and transition to their new communities without losing their own identities,” said Huber, who will present her work at the Student Research Conference.
The Governor Louie B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame has a new inductee. Nancy Hall Duncan spent decades teaching subjects like home economics and science, all while writing grants to get other programs for students off the ground. WKU’s Amy Bingham has more in this week's View from the Hill .
