St. Sarkis, Patron of Youth and Love
In the Armenian Church, St. Sarkis the Warrior is known as the “patron saint of youth and love.” A moveable feast, this year the Feast of St. Sarkis will be celebrated on February 4. St. Sarkis is known for his bravery and faith, upholding Christ during his victorious battles. Refusing to worship pagan gods, Sarkis’ son Mardiros was killed, and he was tortured and eventually executed. At his execution, Sarkis began to pray and asked the Lord to fulfill all the requests and needs of those who would remember him and his martyrdom. On this day young men and women pray to St. Sarkis asking him to make their prayers audible to God.
On the day of the feast a Divine Liturgy is celebrated in all churches named after St. Sarkis. Following the Liturgy a special ceremony of blessing of young people is offered.

Help to end the cruel and illegal Azerbaijani blockade of landlocked Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) and to open and secure the sole road in and out of the area through the Lachin Corridor.
In a blatant act of attempted ethnic cleansing in furtherance of its long-standing genocidal intent, Azerbaijan has cut 120,000 Armenians off from desperately needed food, medicine, and other urgently needed supplies since December 12, 2022, willfully creating a humanitarian crisis against innocent Armenian civilians who simply want a life of peace, freedom and security on their ancestral lands.

FAMILY PIZZA NIGHT AND
NUSHKHAR BAKING WITH DER HAYR
On Friday, January 27th, about 50 parishioners (families, couples, and individuals) gathered at St. Gregory's Tutak hall for family pizza night. Following the pizza dinner Der Mesrob held a short presentation in the sanctuary explaining the meaning of the Holy Communion, the chalice, the nushkhar (wafer - the bread used for the Holy Communion) and the wine which are used during the Divine Liturgy in administering the sacrament of the Holy Communion.
Following the presentation everyone went back to the Tutak hall where Der Mesrob presented the tools used to make nushkhar and the directions how to use them. All participants enjoyed learning the details which they used to prepare their own nushkhars.
After the participants were able to shape the dough in the form of a nushkhar, they were baked in the kitchen by Ann and Tom Daw, and Harout Tigranian.
The children and their families had an enjoyable time and took their baked nushkhars home with them.
