City Council Candidate Surveys, New Fire Truck for High Rises, Olympic City Updates, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • This week's newsletter is sponsored by Armi and Joni Hall. Thank you to the Halls for supporting our mission. If you would like to help us in our mission, we are offering Newsletter Sponsorship opportunities. We are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to continue our mission.

  • Building a 36-story high-rise apartment structure in downtown Colorado Springs presents numerous challenges. One of these is fire suppression in a high-rise residential building. What’s the solution? Buying a new fire truck, that’s what. The truck itself was very expensive, but why also add all the expensive boutique upgrades on the taxpayer's dime? The answers to these questions and more are in our latest original article.

  • This original, and necessary, reporting would not be possible without the generosity of you, our loyal subscribers. We at Springs Taxpayers United are thankful and always grateful for any support you are able to give.

  • Church Voter Guides has published its Colorado Springs City Council election guide.

  • The Gazette has also published its Colorado Springs City Council election guide.

  • Colorado senators are curious why Fort Carson soldiers are having the money the Army pays for food diverted to things other than food. They’ve asked the Department of Defense to investigate.

  • Colorado Springs has a new plan! This time, they are going to renovate curbs and gutters in Old Colorado City.

  • After 40 years, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. in downtown Colorado Springs is moving out of downtown. Parking and issues from vagrancy are cited as drivers for this move.

  • For years, Colorado Springs has been advertised as Olympic City, USA. However, due to funding from local government in North Carolina, some Olympic teams are now making the move to Charlotte. Was the Olympic City, USA dream of some in Colorado Springs City Government merely a mirage?

  • Several Venezuelan illegal alien organized crime gang members have been arrested in Colorado Springs. How many are still out there being criminal gang members?

  • A group of citizens in Arapahoe County are banding together to hold public officials accountable for spending retained TABOR funds. Civic involvement is good. We wish them all the luck in the world.

  • The Federal Small Business Administration will be moving out of sanctuary cities, including Denver. They may relocate the office to Colorado Springs.

  • Officials in the City of Colorado Springs are discussing plans to revitalize North Nevada Avenue. Some of the funds for this project would come from PPRTA tax dollars. What do you think?

  • Colorado Springs City Council is working to expand the city borders by annexing the parcel of land between Fort Carson and the Ray Nixon power plant. They would like to see this become an industrial park.

  • Collecting abandoned shopping carts from around Colorado Springs is almost a full-time occupation for some folks at Colorado Springs Public Works. When the government accepts uncivil behavior, this is one of the many consequences.

  • Colorado Springs officials are considering giving city parking enforcement officers greater authority to remove abandoned vehicles in the city. CSPD has received over 14,000 abandoned vehicle complaints since 2022.

  • Around 30 vagrants were detained in the latest vagrant encampment sweep at Dorchester Park in Colorado Springs. Truckloads of trash were also removed. It’s the circle of life now in Colorado Springs.

  • The Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership has big plans for downtown Colorado Springs. They are asking for your input.

  • Signatures are being gathered in Pueblo for a petition to recall the Pueblo mayor. People are unhappy with the direction the city is headed under Mayor Heather Graham.

  • A bill introduced in the US Congress would cut transportation funding to sanctuary states. If this funding is cut, it would likely negatively impact Jared Polis' 19th-century dream of having us all ride on choo-choo trains.

  • As predicted, the Colorado legislature is scrambling to fill the budget hole in the program that provides school lunches for all school children. As also predicted, they plan to steal TABOR refunds to do this. Why are schools put in the position of feeding children anyway?

  • The Colorado legislature has rejected any and all bills that would provide the taxpayers visibility into what the government is doing. They prefer to hide all their scheming. When they show you what they are, believe them.

  • You know what would be a scam? Forcing gasoline retailers to put cautionary global warming stickers on gas pumps, and then fining stations $20,000 if they don’t follow this policy. Believe it or not, this is exactly what the Colorado legislature wants to do. The Good Idea Fairy is alive and well under the Gold Dome.

  • Also in Colorado legislature news this week, they’ve been crying about the $1.2 billion budget shortfall they created. In spite of this, they spend $10 million of your money to redecorate offices. They are really just rubbing our noses in it at this point.

  • Should social media companies be made spy agents of the radical leftist Colorado government? Well, the radical leftist Colorado government thinks they should be. There’s that Good Idea Fairy again. They want to spy on you but hide what they do with your tax dollars.

  • One of the hoaxers who was involved in the fake racist crime related to Mayor Yemi Mobolade has pled guilty to the crime.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
