Bronx Destinations & Discoveries
- Enslaved African Burial Ground at Van Cortlandt Park: Join us in reflecting on the lives of enslaved Africans and the stories honored at this historically significant site. Learn how Lehman students use place-based learning to care for the site and research its history, helping correct the historical record and honor those buried there.
- The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC): At the heart of the South Bronx, the Bronx Documentary Center brings people together through photography, storytelling, and community. Built in the Bronx offers a 15-year portrait of the borough, capturing its people, neighborhoods, and culture while inviting us to consider how the Bronx sees and tells its own story.
- Arthur Avenue’s Little Italy: Just 10 minutes from Lehman, Arthur Avenue is a longstanding neighborhood gem rich in history and flavor. We’ll make a quick pit stop for a sweet treat and a little historical context about this special corner of the Bronx.
- New York Botanical Garden: Tour the Garden’s world-class living collections and grounds and learn about collaborative research between Lehman and NYBG in plant sciences and food systems. Explore how the Garden supports environmental education, urban ecology, and place-based learning.

Your Course with OER
Join us for a virtual lunchtime discussion about how you can use Open Educational Resources (OER) in your courses.
Meet Lehman College's OER Team and learn about available resources for faculty interested in exploring OER. This presents a great opportunity for faculty seeking to make updates and changes to syllabi, interested in exploring how OER can provide greater access for students in their courses, especially when considering digital options.
Topics covered will include:
- What is OER? Basic Introduction to Licensing, Reusing, and Remixing
- OER as High Impact Practice
- Introduction to Open Pedagogy
- Finding OER
- OER Funding Opportunities and Additional Programming
We especially welcome faculty new to OER – curious about OER programming at Lehman – who wish to learn more before converting a course to OER.
